I see many farang making videos in Pattaya and making money from it. You do not say what kind of visa you are on but without an appropriate type, unable to open a bank account there or indeed access the necessary work permit. Just a heads up as it seems you are on a good change for your life but need a heads up to stay out of trouble.

They call all accounts here savings accounts there just what we call deposit accounts in UK iv opened a savings account but intrest rates are ridiculous not worth it You get about 5% if you drop some money in IB dont need to invest in shares You can get a GBP account with Bangkok bank if you want I am renting a house in Buriram at the moment for £25 a week would never return to UK

Hello, yes you can open a Bank account in Thailand. It's a bit of a chore but can be done. I tried on my own at multiple banks and was unsuccessful. I contacted a company about it and they said they could help. I used their service and successfully opened an account at "Bangkok Bank" with the company rep. at my side to talk to the bank teller and answer any questions in Thai language. That was a couple years ago so I don't remember all the exact process and fees. But I still have the account with a Thai atm card and mobile banking app. enjoy your time in Thailand. I visit about twice a year. Haven't moved full time yet... maybe someday.

It's easy to forget how good you have it here in Thailand. Way more money than I need every month and I can do whatever I want. I'm not sure what the alternative would be for me, other than relocation and a new set of issues to deal with for no good reason. Compared to what seems to be going on in the West, Thailand is a sea of tranquility. My biggest problem is checking out the weather report every morning.

I think foreigner can get a local bank account but there is quite a process. You need proof of long term accommodation, plus only certain banks will do it. I tried and failed lol. Needed a longer stay . Tip , start the process at the beginning and of your holiday.

Funny , no tv licence needed in Australia. In New Zealand 8 think we used to have to pay in. We only use the internet now , no typical tv.

It’s amazing that so many people are reluctant to move to Thailand. Have been here for almost 3 years and all I keep hearing from friends back home are the cost of living expenses are getting crazy. Even if costs go up 10% here in Thailand it doesn’t hurt me financially. I estimate my costs of living expenses in Thailand are 1\4 of what they would be back in Australia.
