Anyone who is rational and well-informed about history and/or linguistics knows that English is at its core a Germanic language, and how it came to have a lot of Old Norman French vocabulary is no great secret. You shouldn't take a bizarre fringe theory like this very seriously, since it is contradicted by a mountain of evidence.

Eh bien, où en est la discussion ici ? Je suis fan de Chabrol depuis de nombreuses décennies et j'ai probablement conservé tous ses films importants dans ma collection de films (probablement une douzaine, je n'arrive pas à les suivre maintenant). Je pense juste à “Le Boucher“ et le “Dr. Popaul“, qui fait partie de mes favoris absolus de Chabrol, et bien sur je me souviens à Stéphane Audran, l'actrice préférée de Chabrol, me vient à l'esprit. Dr. Popaul avec Jean Paul Belmondo est mon préféré absolu, il garantit l'excitation jusqu'à la dernière minute et surprend toujours avec des rebondissements imprévisibles et un twist fabuleux et étonnant à la fin.... le remake américain n'est pas mal non plus, mais il peut faire ça Il n’est pas à la hauteur de l’original français.

Moi, j'adore l'accent anglais en français. Petula Clark, Jane Birkin...Quand je vivais en Angleterre, il y a un demi-siècle!, j'ai trouvé l'anglais très facile. La grammaire est hyper simple et le vocabulaire similaire, à part les 1000 premiers mots basiques germaniques, surtout les verbes à particules, put up with, look down on, get (something) through to (someone), tell off, sink in, take (a story) up, look after (someone)... qu'il faut vraiment maîtriser pour bien comprendre l'anglais idiomatique. Pour augmenter mon vocabulaire, à l'époque, j'ai lu énormément de romans de gare, où le registre de langue est très proche de l'anglais naturel de la rue et des comedies de la télé et puis surtout, je n'ai fréquenté que des Britanniques monoglottes (il y en avait encore beaucoup de mon temps). Pas d'autre choix que de progresser.

I first became aware of him when I stumbled across a foreign movie cable channel which was showing Purple Noon- English subtitles. I was blown away. This movie was the first version of Patricia Highsmith's book- The Talented Mr Ripley. It's better than the Matt Damon- Jude Law version. I think it can be rented on Prime. 🇺🇸

"Purple Moon" is such a great movie! I would also recommend comparing Jacques Deray's "La Piscine" with the newer version by Luca Guadagnino "A Bigger Splash" with Ralph Fiennes.

@@FrenchConversationGroup I was unable to find La Piscine ". I've seen clips- as handsome as he was - you began to see him aging in this movie. He was still young - 35- but one can see the decline begin. In Hollywood, he would have had a nose job and his teeth fixed - but France didn't care ...
