Why 308 if you can have 3006? If using 180 gr bullets 3006 can be loaded 200f/s faster.Good old 3006 can do everything better than 308 if hunting larger species.

Basically my friend Butch showed up with that caliber and wanted to try it out for that company . 3006 is also a good choice as well.

For 30 years I have eaten bulls 60" or greater and loved all the meat, however because they are so old, I have most of the meat turned into hamburger with pork sute. The rosts I pull out we slow cook overnight and they turn out great.

Hi, is 308w 150gr good to hunt moose and black bear? I like it has a flat trajectory
@60InchClub
@60InchClub 3 ай бұрын
Thank you for asking. The 308 is a good caliber however 150gr bullet is too small. I personally wouldn't hunt moose anything UNDER 180gr bullet and I have experienced down to 160grn. I hope this helps and good luck hunting this fall.

I think if you were protecting your self from a grizzly bear or a moose, I think a 180gr 308 will penetrate deeper than a 300rum 180gr will at short distances like under 50 yards. The 300rum is going to deliver a lot energy (4000lbs) but i think bullet construction is going to come into play. High velocity does not equal penetration, it is almost always the opposite. That 180gr at 3250fps is going to over expand or blow apart not getting desired penetration. A 180gr 308 at 2600fps will keep that bullet together and penetrate deep.

Thank you for sharing this information. Honestly I have experienced my 500 Smith & Wesson totally impacting a grizzly with much more knockdown power than any of my other calibers. One shot absolutely devastated my last grizzly at 15 feet... Be safe out there...

I just moved to Alaska in 2021. Bought myself a 300 Win Mag this year and looking for what scope magnification I need. Can’t wait to get out there and hunt.
@60InchClub
@60InchClub 2 ай бұрын
Picking you scope depends on how you want to use it? For 90% of people a Basic 3x9 will do just fine however if you like to sit on ridge tops and find yourself in a long range shooting situation your are looking for 20X 50 high grade optics. If you master your moose calling techniques like I have done you can call them bulls into camp and only need open sights or a bow, it really is this simple. For 20 pus years I hunted everything in Alaska with a basic stainless steel 300 Win Mag (Ruger) crowned with a 3X9 Leupold scope. I actually nicknamed this old rifle of mine that I still have, "The Slut" because it was the most used piece of equipment I take out into the field each year for hunting. Good luck on your hunt this fall T

I understand why and don't blame the bear for doing what it does best. They are opportunistic in nature and love to play actually with everything. I have never personally been confronted by a "mean" bear. When given the chance they have always ran the other direction. I didn't say it in the video but that bear was behind camp chiming its teeth the whole time I was packing everything up. The bear tracks shown walking up to the tent are fresh tracks.

@60InchClub

In Alaska we hunt moose to feed our families just like most folks buy beef at the store. Be harvesting the "OLD" bulls this perpetuates the species allowing the bulls to pass on their genes before we harvest them. Along with providing for our families I love to capture the moments on videos to share for a lifetime. Unlike "meat only hunters" we have the meat butchered for our table fare and then have the giant antlers taxidermy professionally to hang in our homes. I go another step further to produce these filmes to share my experiences with everyone for training or maybe to live somehow vicariously through our blessed hunts. Thanks for sharing your concerns and allowing me to explain. Respectfully Troy

Each caliber shines in different ways. The 308 is a great all around caliber and is excellent for longer range shots and depending on grain of bullet is a excellent choice. The 4570 is your "guide model" caliber, you will see many guides using this caliber for it's excellent "close" range protection and superb knockdown power out to 150 yards. 98% of all the moose my friends and I have takes have been under 200 yards, with that said averone hunting Alaska must consider bear problems and the 4570 knock down power is a nice consideration. One can knockdown a moose and protect it afterwards when you are quartering and butchering up the moose. I hope this help in your decision.

Thank you for your response. My goal is to show what I and my friends have used over the years. I think shot placement trump's big calibers, the big take away I have learned is no matter the ballistic coefficient of your chosen caliber the larger the grain bullet has been the difference for big game in Alaska. I wish you all the best luck in the field... Stay safe and have fun. Troy

I don't appreciate your condescending comments, if you can't say anything good then don't say anything at all and keep on scrolling. Music I chose is royalty free and had to be paid for use on public platforms. I picked the music because it made me feel like I felt when I was on this hunt. Shooting moose in ankle deep water is actually the best way to keep your processing much cleaner, we didn't plan it that way it just happened that way. Both moose were actually 1400 plus pounds (average weight for Alaska Yukon Moose), I would suggest getting your fact correct before passing judgment. I post these FREE videos in the hopes to help others and maybe give others a reason to hope that one day they too can be on a moose hunt and be as successful as me and my friends. If you reply with another snobby comment I will have you blocked on KZbin.

If we wanted a “one shot drop” we easily could have shot the bull in the next, however risky that close to the river you Dont see or the bog close by. One in the boiler first then one shot drop is how it's done in “true wilderness”...
