Leonard Holifield is criminally underrated as a Combative instructor. I have learned both the Army Combatives program that Mr. Holifield taught (from my father, an Army veteran) and the MACP (Modern Army Combatives Program) that Matt Larsen made from watching the UFC, due to my current Army service. While I can acknowledge that MACP has more ground techniques, Holifield takes a much more "battlefield experience" approach whereas Matt Larsen has a more "My imagination is so brilliant I don't need experience". Even BJJ enthusiasts acknowledge that MACP is "poor BJJ at best" and martial artists of other styles (including military disciplines) state that Larsen's poor technique and ideas show. Leonard Holifield, by contrast, does take an older, traditional style to fighting but he also strives to make it simpler and with an aggressive mindset. At worst, he adds a bit too much extra technique. But mostly, he knows NOT to use too much martial arts and focus more on survival and defeating the enemy.

Your demonstration of how you would defend yourself against 2 attackers is very good, I guess gary and Jim Doty are brothers, but I'm guessing if I was actually attacked by 2 people it's not going to be that easy.

A key element to the open-hand technique is to cock your thumbs. The first purpose is to intensify your palm strength. The second reason is to prevent thumb injury. Thumb injury is the most common in sports and other physical activities,

You are right. James W. McNeil say that he is a student of Xu Hongji (Hsu Hong Chi, 許鴻基), but Mike Patterson say that he is a second generation student in the Tang Shou Tao (唐手道, lit. "Chinese Hand Way") lineage, trained under John L. Price in California. Anyway, he is a martial artist of Tang Shou Tao. Tang Shou Tao (唐手道) is a system incorporates elements of all three of the major Chinese internal arts (xingyiquan, baguazhang, and taijiquan) as well as Shaolin kung fu and qigong. So, it has some basic training like Shaolin kung fu or Crane (related to Shaolin).
