What is it about Art College bands like Split Enz that they seem to be born perfectly formed? Like, they never have a ten year long backstory about playing grimy pubs or doing gruelling country town tours. They emerge from the shell as baby crocodiles do, sharp and bright and ready for action.

this song makes me miss all those friends i had in primary school @ the time(specially the little crushes i had on various girls) grades 5/6- 1978/79,holding hands innocently @ school discos etc, holding hands walking home, writing love letters and receiving letters back sprayed with their mums perfume and then in a flash the onset n seriousness of secondary school with its engineering to forget all about them n your past bc it was all was about your future was thrust upon one at the ripe old age of 12,how fkn sad,a lot of the faces from 1978/79 i havent seen for close to 45 years,at least 42 , and that makes me absolutely sad more often than not thats only crept into my conscious or should i say unearthed itself from my conscious theses past 24 months or so. its like a haunting

this song is drenched in sweet melancholy, from the cord changes to the lyrics to the melody, its a beautiful song, twas then for an 11 yr old boy with a sense of wonder n is now for this 56 yr old jaded child of many many experiences, the irony is ive changed but the music hasnt n that leaves one with even more questions than one had when just a young boy,i feel sadness but understand it whilst disliking that aspect all in the one frame.....one untangiable thurout this songs existence is my parents are still together just as they were back then in the middle of the year 1979,it really is a thing of beauty personally speaking
