I actually like "Pleasure and the Pain"! It was a continuation of the "new sound" begun with "Generation 13". I liked it, but I'm also very critical of it. It had some of Saga's FINEST music on it, but they made a lot of mistakes with it. They should have gotten rid of the techno music, they shouldn't have ended the album with a slow song, and they shouldn't have put a Beatles cover on it. If they would've replaced those three songs with other songs made with the same sound as the remaining songs, it would've been a more even-sounding album, and it would've been a better album. The finalé was one of the best jams I ever heard!
@timfurnier706110 ай бұрын
There's NO WAY "Wildest Dreams" ranks as high as it does here. It's without a doubt one of their worst albums. It only has one excellent track ("The Way of the World"), one very good song ("Have We Been Here Before"), and one pretty good song ("Don't Look Down")!!!!!!! And there's ABSOLUTELY NO WAY it's better than "The Beginner's Guide....."!!!!!!!! That album is one of their VERY best and a masterpiece! I'd probably put this album tied with "Steel Umbrellas" for last place. I actually like the latter a little better because it doesn't have any garbage on it like "Chase the Wind", which is Saga at it's ABSOLUTELY lowest creative point and highest commercial drek point. It's only a little better than the eighties Chicago sound. SU has some excellent moments from Jim Gilmour!

The last album I bought was Generation X. I Was still looking for that older Saga sound like on Silent Night or World's Apart, or even something close to Behaviour (their last good album), thus I was disappointed with Generation X. Actually, after their 1987 album Wildest Dreams came out, I knew that the muse had pretty much left the band.

Hi Jens, this is Jochen from Germany. I saw your room tour. Very fantastic!!!!! So, that's an interesting ranking. I'm wondering about the high positions for House of cards and Full circle. For me both are good albums, but it's not the same like the early days. Wildest dreams on 10? Are you mad? - Sorry about this, but I don't understand, how could you say anything good about this one?! - OK. My list is also controverse ;-) 1. Saga 2. World's apart 3. Images at twilight 4. Silent knight 5. Heads or tales 6. Behaviour 7. 10.000 days 8. Generation 13 9. Security of illusion 10. Full circle 11. Network 12. Trust 13. House of cards 14. Marathon 15. 20/20 16. Human condition 17. Beginner's guide... 18. Sagacity 19. Steel umbrellas 20. Wildest dreams / Pleasure and the pain (I can't decide which one is more awful) "Phase 1" for me isn't rankable, because it is no real studio album. And "Symmetry" is a beautiful adventure. (maybe 8. or 9.)

Fantastisk video. Stort tack.
@jensstorberget29232 жыл бұрын
Tack, Tobbe.

Where would symmetry fit in your ranking?
@michaelgaesser77963 жыл бұрын
This is a good question. I first heard in March 2021 and still feel like I'm digesting it like brand new music 6 months later. It's top 5, if not the best. You don't go to it to hear just one song, you want to listen to the whole thing every time. Arrangements are amazing. You can't really call it an "unplugged" or "acoustic" album, it's just familiar music done in a very different, amazing way.
@jensstorberget29233 жыл бұрын
Between Trust and 20/20, at place 16 I think. I just love the electronic musical sound that they have. And you can't get that accoustic in the same way, even if they have done it well and are brilliant musicians.

As a fan since 1980, I largely agree with your rankings. The first half is nearly chronological in the ranking, the second half, well there are a couple of albums I can and do live without. I think it is fairly typical for people to like the sound that they are first introduced to. For me, the 'low' was the song Fantastically Wrong on Pleasure and the Pain. It was. The last couple of albums just weren't the same Saga sound. I understand and appreciate a band's desire to experiment and evolve. Nothing says I must like everything they put out. Wouldn't it be great for them to go back and compose like it was some period like the first 3 or 4 albums. Recapture that sound but with new songs! Awesome to consider....
@slaydesaid87413 жыл бұрын
Yeah - It's interesting that everyone feels that the first 4 albums (3, even, since "Worlds Apart" already started to head in a different direction, while stile being a great album) are clearly the top-shelf SAGA (me definitely included). Soo many times I've read reviews where the reviewer has claimed that they are now returning to the old/original sound, only for me to find out that it was not the case at all and became very disappointed. I still haven't heard an album by them that I really care for after "Worlds Apart", but man these first four albums (plus the live album "In Transit") are pure gold.
@michaelgaesser77963 жыл бұрын
I largely agree too. But have some differences. Fans from the beginning seem to love that 3rd album the most. I agree the worst is Human Condition. Don't even like the arrangements/songs. Had Sadler sang on that, I don't feel like I would have cared for it. Just above that is Steel Umbrellas. Then 13 & Pleasure & the Pain. MY favorite is Beginner's Guide. Amazing record start to finish. Follwed by Wildest Dreams and Behaviour. Then Worlds Apart and Heads/Tails. Like Sagacity and 20/20 right behind, then House of Cards, Marathon and that time period. In any case, Saga has, late in my life, taken over Queen for my favorite band. And I listen to Beginner's Guide more than any Queen record or any other record now.

Interesting! especially because I have to thank the band for being able to accompany them for so long. What was that time? But when the taste in music changed, the band got bent. From Wildest dreams the mainstream followed ... and other albums that had nothing to do with SAGA. Except for a few songs ... SAGA had lost an incredible number of fans and only came back musically with Full Circle. What would have happened if they had remained true to themselves? Sometimes it makes me sad that they could not maintain their leading position and also disappointed the fan. But after all these many years they are still there ... and one shouldn't complain about that. Thank you!
