I just listened to the episode of "The Glums", where Mr. Glum got his toe stuck in the bath' s plug hole : Eth noted he'd been in there a long time , Ron said, " He's an old man...." Eth said he'd been in there 3 hours , so Ron said, " Maybe he's a dirty old man..." 🇬🇧😊🦉💙👍🌈🎭🇬🇧

I love " The Glums "! The sketches always start with Eth saying, " Ooo, Ron !" Sad , though : only 115 " likes" over 5 years ...😢. People don't know what they are missing ! So well crafted, with gentle humour .🙂. I'm so pleased these " gems" have been preserved 🙂. Many years ago, I had a very nice ( and treasured) reply to my letter where I noted that our dogs (terriers) , looked very similar 🐕🐕🙂. June was known to her peers as a very reliable colleague .🙂. An admirable career , with much good work. 🇬🇧👍🙂🦉💙🐕🐕🇬🇧

June Whitfield was SO reliable in everything she did.🌹. When she was about to take on the role of " Eth" ( Ron's "Beloved "), June asked her Mother how she should play it : what type of voice...Mother advised, " Like Mrs ( xyz )... and as a result, we have enjoyed that instantly recognised voice ever since. I had an abandoned terrier in 1966, and saw June's own dog briefly on t.v., it was the " spitting image " of my " Ricky " : I wrote to June, and she graciously replied😊. 🇬🇧🌹🦉😊💙🐕😊

The Birthday Boy episode is a gem. Mr Glum referring to Ron's Birthday Card: "It fell off the rack and a dog walked on it!" Such a srangely hilarious line.

Pity about the occasional interference. This is one of the best of all the Glums. Many very funny lines.

So many happy memories from listening to shows like this when I was growing up! Sundays were, full of such joys. The Glums, Life with the Lyons, Family Favourites, Take it from Here, Sing Something Simple and a great favourite Round The Horne, Navy Lark and more. Still remember that great old brown radio on top of the cupboard. An utter joy to still be able to laugh and know I won't hear any foul language or innuendo. Well, yes, I know Round the Horne was innuendo-ridden...but I didn't know then!

People don't seem to have the imagination for radio comedy any longer, everything now has be to ultra-graphic or foul mouthed for them to understand. These radio shows were primetime listening, written by the best comedy writers of our time. Thanks for uploading these wonderful shows, so many memories.

You're very welcome! I totally agree it's a shame comedy nowadays, even when well written, always feel the need to have bad language and confronting themes. I'm so glad my parents recorded these (and that I found the recordings!). They recorded them for us to listen to at home or in the car but they've got a new life online now (if allowed to stay!).

The Glums were part of my childhood, sitting near the steam radio on a Sunday. " Ohhhh, Ron " ..... " Yes, beloved ". " Hello, hello, hello. What's going on here ? " Great memories. Loved June Whitfield. Shw was a real sweetie. 😇 Ron was so dumb he would slot comfortably into the Labour Party's front bench. 😂😂😂
