Where is the interview with Rod ? He only seems to do them when we lose !
@johnnyhartley433011 күн бұрын
Rod's interview is on the club's Twitter site, not sure why it's not here on KZbin too. Last season I wondered what would have been if we'd had Rod from pre-season onwards, with all his selections in the team. So it's been enjoyable to watch this full season with Rod develop. We took a big step forward against Hampton, but the 4 new signings since then look as though we've taken another big step forward. The second half of the season looks very promising!

Two home games ago I was really impressed, as I thought for the first time this season we have really gelled as a team, as Rod has weeded out the less effective players, and now got a proper team of regular starters who understand each others game. Last season with Rod we improved as the season went on (unlike the previous managers where we got worse as the season went on!) I can see we will improve in the second half of the season, especially as the first half of the season had lots of bad luck with injuries and wrong decisions by refs against us on red cards and denied goals, so we are better than the table shows. Enormous improvement over the 0 - 6 defeat last time, where Rod showed his determination to succeed by immediately releasing 4 player. Only 4 of our last 22 games have been lost by more than 1 goal, so we closely match teams most of the time, which is a great achievement by Rod, bearing in mind we must have one of the lowest budgets in the league, which fans should take into account before criticising. We have easier games coming up now, thankfully won't have to play Boreham Wood again, as by far they are the best team we've played this season. 8 points above relegation, never having been in the bottom 4 is better than the moaners realise.

He did well with someone elses team. Fair enough we lost 3 to four key players but they have had enough time to get the adequate replacements by now the his style of football is dire to watch anyone whose seen us would think we had peter crouch up top

@@RETROHOLICGAMER You are wrong, under that someone else we were bottom 4 from August to his departure in January. Rod has a great quality of having lots of contacts in football so came in and added some great loan signings like Fish and Adigun, and those changes greatly improved us, same has happened again this season with great loans like Lankshear. I wondered why some of Rod's signings hadn't worked out, then realised on reflection they were the best he could get at the time with our budget, and he has gradually released the less effective players and brought in better ones that have become available, which is why we have improved as the season has gone on, as we now have a squad with no weak links, well maybe one that needs to do some gym work, but many players have improved as the season has gone on. It's a very young inexperienced squad still learning how to manage different situations in games. He adjusts his team to deal with different opponents, could you explain what you see as dire about his style of football? Which striker are you talking about, the departed Chukwu? Did you know he had left?

No attacking input in second half took lead twice and went defensive and sat back. Listening to manager stand on touchline to show some bollocks want to win the game then contradict himself by telling his players to just whack the ball up field to clear it to a striker who won next to nothing is poor tactics as far im concerned

Honest comments from the manager, his view of the game is correct. Thought Welling defended well but were lacking in the final third. When Weling applied the high press it made things difficult for the Stones. Only difference was Aaron Blair for the Stones. Good to see that he still backs his players. Stones fan.

We need to be realistic about our expectations. We have the second lowest attendance in the league (only Aveley get lower attendances) so presumably have a lower budget than most other teams. But despite that disadvantage, at the half way stage of the season we are 8 points above the relegation zone, and nearly always competitive - in our last 17 games 12 were separated by a single goal, 2 were draws and just 3 were separated by more than 1 goal, so we are rarely outplayed. Rod and the coaches do a great job at pushing the team to get the best out of themselves, so all the best to all for the new year.

The first half was the best football Welling have played for months, the second half Phoenix were excellent, but Welling scored two second half goals when a man down, so all things considered were fine in the second half too. Some matches are forgettable, but this was an unexpectedly memorable match. All the best to Phoenix for the rest of the season, keep playing like that and you'll be fine.

Should have been 4-0 at half time, but why change the pressing approach second half? Tonbridge changed pesonnel and shape, which helped them, but Welling stood off and allowed them the ball. Should have won this from 2-0, and an open goal miss from Burchill to go 3-0 and game over did not help.

Great interview, some complain about our changes of formation, but don't get you need to adjust to counter the opposition, not just use the same players in the same formation game after game, so well done to Rod and Kevin for cleverly and successfully setting up an unusual formation to counteract today's opponents. I've said for ages Max and Gene are our most creative players so need to play in attacking positions, not just central defensive, so nice today Gene scoring one and making an assist and Max assisting our other goal. 9 of our last 11 games have been won or lost by a single goal, my nerves can't stand it! Great win, fab days work for the team and management.

Great to see Gene playing in his perfect position just behind the strikers, tons more creative movement in attack with him, Elliot and Chuks linking up. That new attacking triangle could turn our season round if we stick with it. We created a lot, but fair play to Havant, they defended with great determination.

What goes around comes around. I watched a Glenn Hoddle interview where he said football management is about "putting your best players that can hurt the opposition in the right positions, its not rocket science." He's right, if you dont do that, then really you dont deserve success. Elliott already has proven successful an attacking partnership with Chuks from last season in mens football with Wingate. Martell on the other hand has no track record in mens football, and is almost invisible as an attacking threat, yet Rod keeps picking Martell instead of exploring other better options within the squad. Gene is our second highest league scorer, with lots of assists, yet Rod plays him as a holding midfielder, so stops him from being in attacking positions to maximise the hurt he can do to other teams. Max is great at getting the ball up to strikers with accurate passes, so would be perfect in midfield to give our strikers the supply they lack, yet he is played as a central defender which stops him from hurting the opposition with his creative attacking passing. So we already have the answers to our problems about not hurting opponents enough, and not creating more and not scoring more, but we are not playing our best players in the right positions to hurt the opposition. In this game Gene played in the correct supporting attacking position, until he had to come off injured, but while he and Elliot were on we had so much mobility in attack, compared to Martell's invisible man. Elliott came off for no real reason. Last game Zain showed how much we have missed him, so losing him again to injury is typical of our bad luck this season so far, as Rhys has been our best player this season, but he's been injured, and wouldn't have conceded the goals his recent stand ins have conceded. Football is all about learning from mistakes, so one doesn't repeat them. But unfortunately the same mistakes keep getting made, with the same negative outcomes. Elliot, Chuks and Gene are our most creative players, but we are lucky if more than one of them is playing in an attacking position, two of them often aren't even being picked.
@ParkViewVlogs2 ай бұрын
Elliot did not have a good game. I’m like you, I want to see the partnership with Chuks that got Wingate to a playoff final last year, but Elliot looked totally shot of confidence yesterday & it’s disappointing to see. When you are in & out of the team, you have no opportunity to build any consistency to your own game & that’s exactly what we’re seeing. Totally agree regarding Chuks. Worked hard & offers more than Martell who offers nothing. It’s all very bleak at the moment sadly

This can never happen again. The defensive formation was highly questionable and the team looked confused. Every other game, the players have shown heart and known what they're doing. To be honest, we have had some poor luck this season with injuries and some stupid decisions going against us. However, we have won some games recently and we should hold on to that. Maybe give Bergkamp another chance? Also, we need a quick short striker running off Chuks and banging them in. We don't seem to have that player ATM.
