Who else these days is choreographing programs to mark the entry of the spin with the music...I mean, where are you king Jeffrey?? Your sense of artistry is so deeply missed 😢

Amazing he pulled off a clean LP enough to be third (in the LP) that's pretty badass. Pulling a groin muscle then having to fly perfectly around on the ice...wow. The spins just hurt me to watch knowing what they must have felt like but they were beautiful. I hope he got to soak in the bathtub or something after this. And it's good he got to skate at the end, not have to do it first then wait and wait and wait and never get any relief...

Brian Orser is the best skater ever - better than Scott Hamilton and Brian Boitano. There is no question about that. How he never won a gold Olympic medal I will never know. He was always marked too low, no way did those guys skate better than him, they just got better treatment by the judges, and yes, the stupid compulsory figures that have no relevance to how a skater performs in a programme.

Great skate. Robbed of winning the short program. He deserved many 6.0s for technical and all 6.0s for artistic. Beautiful and such powerful jumps, so huge.

I think Chris wanted more than bronze - he had silver and bronze in 89 and 90. He knew kurt viktor and todd would try two 3axels in the long program, kurt possibly a quad. We can only assume Chris had landed that quad in practice at some point, it was a solid attempt for someone we never saw attempt it any other time. I also suspect he was hearing whispers of "doesn't have the difficulty to compete for gold" so wanted to give everyone the middle finger.

It is so appropriate and fitting that the late great Jim McKay narrated this beautiful piece... the enthusiasm he brought when covering skating events contributed so much to its growth in America. RIP.

Brian skated like mad. But this isn’t a Boitano program.This is a program for a diminutive skater, not a big guy like Brian. I’m so grateful that Linda Leaver contacted Sandra Bezic, who then helped Brian to find the style that suited him. A match made in heaven, and it’s all been beautiful history since that. 88 Olympics onward.

For years I have wondered why the judges were so hard on him, even domestically like here. Did they want to favor the skaters with quads because they felt they would have a better shot at worlds? Did the fact he came from a low-key skating club without a big name coach hurt him? Either way I think he was truly underrated. Its just too bad he was a bit past his prime when the new ISU judging system took over fully because it was well-suited for his style. Oh well. At least he got to the Olympics and had a good showing there.

And here were are in 2022. Artistry is gone. It's all about the quads . They've even given on the spins, mostly. What I liked about Elvis was his aggressiveness but willingness to bow to the artistry as well. No rugby player has more grit.

I think those required elements marks were fairly generous, given the lutz combo (not axel, no speed in-between the jumps), flip out of footwork (not lutz) and overall not as fast as one would like. 5.6s & 5.7s with a 5.8. Very generous. And I thought he skated great.
@Zuranthium3 жыл бұрын
5.8 is too high but the lutz combo is plenty clean, other two jumps were perfect, good spins, sufficient footwork. Mainly depends on how a judge wanted to assign base value for not having a Triple Axel. I think 5.6's and 5.7's is very accurate.
@jja87503 жыл бұрын
@@Zuranthium I think I would have given a 5.6 on a good day. No Axel knocks off .2 for me right away. And of the other 7 elements, all done either well or very well, I would have taken another .2 in places. When you've got several men attempting and landing the Axel, one has to leave room. That's what I meant by those 5.7s and 8. I'm probably nitpicking, but I was just surprised to see them as high as they were.

Elvis this has to be by far my all time favorite. Blue looks incredible on you. Thank you for being my role model, for being the man and athlete you are Thank you for your courage, discipline, for staying true to who you are, and not backing down, thank you for just everything. I want you to know how much I love you, how proud iam of you, and for how you've touched and impacted my life, as I deal with my medical condition, I'm learning that I'm stronger than I think iam and have more courage, and a fighter., than what I imagined. Your right. I'm so blessed how god has used you to confirm prophetic words over and over again, its blown me away, it got me through my time riding horses and know as a college student with disabilities. I'm learning alot about myself and how to stand on what I believe and not on the schools liberal ideology. I'm thankful grateful and blessed to have you and my good friend Tim tebow walking with me, being there as coaches role models and people who god is using to continue to turn my life around for the better.

It is an interesting dilemna for the judges. Mirai did definitely outjump Joannie this night. However Joannie is the much stronger skater. Bigger jumps, much more speed even though Mira had improved her speed some, stronger basics, and just more refinement, polish, and strength in nearly every aspect of her skating. But Mirai cleanly did about twice as many triples.
