The Showcase Cinemas, on Rt. 22 (Most people considered it to be in Monroeville, but it was actually in Wilkins Twp. - Monroeville didn't start until you crossed over the bridge, towards Monroeville Mall). In 1981/82 ? it went from 4 screens to 8 (they just made the theaters smaller, as they weren't filling each one, & this allowed them to show more movies at once). Later (I don't know what year), they expanded again. This time from 8 to 12 screens.

No mention of Central States Theaters and ABC Theaters, both operated by the Blank family. Their offices were in the Paramount Building. They operated theaters and drive-ins throughout Iowa and, I think, in Illinois.

Cinema plant had full restaurant and bar. You could order and the food would come out to your movie seat. Was great when it opened. If the owner had run it right it could have been great.

I grew up in Topeka 1983-86 cruising the boulevard drag racing, the parties, and spent a lot of time in the Fox, and gage 4 theaters as well as the chief and cloverleaf drive-ins. Was an amazing time to be a teenager in Topeka! Was a life time ago and now it's all gone 😢

Remember going to the drive in to see Star Wars. Waiting in a line-up of cars, they sold out and we were six cars away from getting in.😢 Had to wait to the following year to see it at the Odeon.

A nice feature would've been to post the locations... streets, -- Westside, Eastside, Upper Valley, Lower Valley, Northeast, Downtown, ... that would be nice. But still, thanks! I lived in El Paso, Eastside, for 25 years, till 2014, but I'm amazed at how many changes occurred. ❤

I wish we'd go back to the days of cinerama the Miller with the winding hallways the luxury sunset. I remember Roger ebert complaining about the shoe box cinemas with the new dim screens. We need a cinerama image the size of the continental in Denver. If it was viable business. Bill gates cohort saved a cinerama theater in Seattle that apparently did good business. Had free popcorn. Something like that.
