You could watch "advanced Spinnaker trim" on the TV while trying to spinnaker trim. 😁 I believe barometers have springs in them to read the pressure. They are subject to vibrations and bouncing, so may check it after a rougher sail. Maybe throw an hour meter on the autobilge pump (if it doesn't have one) so you know about how long it ran. Nice boat, thanks for the tour.
@squallyheiferadventures
@squallyheiferadventures 15 күн бұрын
The Barometer was definitely a learning curve with research on how it worked. I will be watching it closely for the next few months to see how it maintains its accuracy. I have bought the new bilge pump and getting ready to install it. I will look into the hour meter to see how easy it is to install. So far I have been checking it and I have a pretty dry bilge which makes me happy.
@olivei2484
@olivei2484 15 күн бұрын
@@squallyheiferadventures Yeah, that bilge looked good. I wired an hour meter into my pickup, pretty easy. Hot to ign on, and ground. That's about it. Mainly with barometers, you are looking at the changes, not so much the absolute. NOAA has good readings at most airports, so can always check on line at closest airport.

Ahoy, Squally! This is such a fantastic video discussing your 6 hp engine aboard Squally Heifer! You are making great headway in that headwind! I also love how you have one of the drop/hatchboards in on the companionway -- I feel this is an important safety measure and I always try to be mindful of doing this on my boats, too. But, I admit, I am guilty of overlooking this, at times, and I cringe when I look back at my videos when I forget to put the drop board(s) in. Not long ago, I read, in one of Lin and Larry Pardey's books, a good rule of thumb re: when they put the drop/hatch boards in -- and, you know what, now I can't remember what it is! I'll have to go back and see what they wrote about that -- it was in their book, 'Seraffyn's European Adventures.' Also, noticed you have the boat's tiller tied in the video -- I had meant to ask you about this during our podcast interview -- when you use the engine, do you steer with the tiller on the engine, or with the tiller on the boat? I have done it both ways. Also, depends upon situations using one method over the other. Next time you're on the show, we can talk about this -- and I have lots of other questions, yet, still! It was awesome having you as a guest on my podcast, and I am so honored and grateful you accepted the invite! I sent the link to Gerry Hutchins over at Com-Pac, and he sent me a nice email reply about how much great info we had provided about the Legacy during the show -- such a nice compliment from him! Thanks so much, again, for hanging out with me to talk Legacies -- it was so much fun! ~ Chelle P.S. Your video is also a great example showing how the Legacy's mainsheet/traveller on the stern-arch is integrated into the rigging!

Thanks Chelle for the compliment. This was some old footage that I wasn't going to use but after our talk i thought it showed the speed of the legacy in some waves. I do steer with both the tiller and engine depending on the situation. I have found i get better maneuverability with just the engine and the rudder propped up and secured.
@passagesfromtheheart
@passagesfromtheheart 6 ай бұрын
@@squallyheiferadventures Yeah, the video was totally great footage to show how the Legacy does with that engine in those waves! It really gives people an idea about what to expect, for sure! Thanks for letting me know about the tillers on the engine vs the rudder -- I agree about the maneuverability that you mention! In my ASA 103 course, I remember, while using the outboard engine, the instructor made us keep one hand on the outboard's tiller and the other hand on the boat's tiller -- it was really hard! Talk about learning to coordinate -- it was very difficult for me to do this, but in time, I got the swing of it. I admit, tho, I don't do this on my own boat, but I think, in a jam, especially, the technique is helpful, especially backing up. Fair winds! ~ Chelle

All those dead trees in the lake bed, isn't that an indication that it was dry many years ago?
