I almost jumped at the Janome HD9 but it wasn't in stock and my local dealer is closed today. A nearby dealer mentioned this machine and I'm pretty excited to try it out!

I'm so glad I stumbled on your video! Your overview highlighted several features that I didn't see or understand in the tutorial given to me at the store. I purchased this machine about a year ago and have barely used it, but I've got my first bag project in hand and I'm going to give it a go. I actually made a laptop sleeve a little over a month ago and this machine sewed through two layers of interfaced quilted cotton and an interfaced lining like a champ! I was so impressed. My only complaint is the lack of clearance under the cylinder arm. I wish the base was detachable there to increase clearance to sew around a project. Otherwise, for the few times that I've used it (including hemming jeans) it's been great!

I hope you find a machine you love, be it this one or another. After having it for quite some time and using it very regularly, I still love it and would not change a thing about my decision to buy it. It’s been wonderful.

Is it still liked? Has anything broken? Is the cutter still alive? My understanding is that most cutters can't handle industrial threads so you need to cut that thread manually. That seams like an oversight or lack of attention by the brand.
@EmporiumThreads
@EmporiumThreads Ай бұрын
I am still using is all the time, both traveling and at home in my studio. I love it and I don’t regret my choice one bit. I don’t use the cutter on this because though it works 90% of the time, occasionally it struggles with the Tex 45 thread (only in the cutter) and I’m so used to manually cutting with snips anyhow so I just use my snips. I have zero complains about this machine and still works amazingly! :)

What makes this "semi industrial?" I have a Singer 301 that can sew 1600 spm and is an all METAL machine (no plastic) so don't see where this qualifies as anything but a domestic sewing machine.

Thank you! Great tutorial. I'll be buying some OdiCoat to protect the fabric I bought for my kitchen chairs. What heat press do you have? What's the material you have on your heat press?

I have a stream fast model and I just do not use it with any water. I bought teflon oven liner material from Amazon, cut it to size and then I wrapped around the press plates to avoid anything sticking or causing an issue. You don’t need them but it is nice to do in case you press some interfacing the wrong side out, etc.

I really prefer the binding but I find people are kind of split. If you upsize, it defiantly makes it a bit easier to make it (more space). However, I have big hands.

Are you able to use a regular foot on your sewing machine or did you have to use a teflon coated foot?
@EmporiumThreads

You can use all kinds of different feet. My preference tends to be the teflon foot since I work with stickies materials. I also really like my narrow zipper foot.

Thank you so much for the tutorial! I just want to point out that some people mentioned using a Lazy Susan to turn the press around during the paint spray stage. If you dont have one (or dont want to risk getting paint on it), you can place the press on a piece lf cardstock or another bit of cardboard to be able to rotate it around without touching the press and getting finger prints on it.

Although this is an excellent review like all the others, to flaunt the Elna ef1, which doesn't even offer a functional thread cutter, over the Brother PQ1600 or Juki is weirdly strange given the price gap between the three. Also, there are tons of videos and reviews of users doing happy quilting with Brother. What user experience can you get from Elna ef1 who lacks a functional thread cutter? This is a no go for 99% of users of modern semi-industrial sewing machines. Poor lighting (Juki) can easily be fixed in a thousand ways at almost no cost, but a thread cutter you have or you don't. To even bother to mention lighting as a downside is pure nonsense to me. Singer 201 does a fantastic job for a fraction of the price, why would I need Elna? If you get pleasure from cutting threads by hand, then you are alone. Brother sewing machines are one of the smoothest and finest sewing machines in the industry. If you factor in the selling price they surely get the top spot. Nevertheless, I rate the presentation, the language and the camera angles with 5/5 stars.

Did you make up your design for the appliqué on the front? What kind of machine are you using? I do not have an industrial machine, so I’m curious if this type of fabric and layers can be done on a domestic. I’m hoping you are using a domestic loldo you have a link for the bag Ang light?
@EmporiumThreads
@EmporiumThreads 2 ай бұрын
I used my domestic huskvarna Viking machine to do all the appliqué work on these pieces. Yes, I created this appliqué from scratch by first drawing it all out digitally, then converting it to svgs. I used mg circuit to cut the appliqué out of vinyl and used my machine, slowly stitching it all on and hand cranking to deal with the tight angles and small pieces. I am using my Elna Ef1 here to assemble the final bag. You could easily do this on a domestic machine but with the thicker materials I was using here, I preferred to go with the Ef1 so I would use my thicker threads. You do not need an industrial machine for anything I’ve shown here :)

I'm not a bag maker, just garments and quilts. I don't quite understand what "too much for quilting" is. Nor do I understand what a "refined user experience" is. Quilters like straight stitch only for piecing, and they like speed because chain piecing with petal-to-the-metal is great. It seems that with the large harp, a big quilt could be quilted. Any help with specifics on why this machine is "too much" and not "refined" would be helpful before I commit.

I was impatient and put my spring in and cut the zip-ties, before I put the rod in and the bolt that pushes the spring down. 😢 I also over applied the glitter spray in a few spots. Otherwise, my KAM makeover turned out! 😊 This tutorial is the best. Newer KAM presses have a bolt instead of a pin to push the spring down.

You are an excellent instructor and I just purchased this machine. I had the Brother 1500 Novelle for 15 years and wore it out. However I did certainly enjoy your review. Thank you Chris

Didn’t the intake nurse ask about your medications or allergies? I work an emergency room. There are many people coming in with flank pain and related symptoms related to Kidney stones. Mostly from energy drinks, and dehydration. I have had kidney stones. I also had to go see a endocrinologist to find out I had an oversized parathyroid gland releasing too much calcium into my blood. Hopefully, you do not have another. I can relate that the experience is horrible.

You are an amazing advocate and a super attentive and professional nurse ❤️❤️ I don’t do energy drinks. I do see an endo for thyroid issues. But I don’t know if anyone has checked the parathyroid (which i learned about in my google deep dives) so I’m going to ask :) Sorry you are also in the KS club. Hope you aren’t a repeating member.
