I am trying to get into the world of engine swaps, started with the ever orignal 12 valve into a ford. I quickly found out one is far better off finding your own solutions for fitment of accesories as most of these conversion places sell you cheapo fittings instead of doing any actual research. I used a DCS kit, motor mounts, flex plate, and engine adapter seemed very nice. Everything else was awful. I hope one day to get a John Deere 6359t construction engine into a truck some day.

Start position is when the lever with the baler twin on it just touches that small plunger that is sticking out of the barrel.

On the tachometer drive it is usually the bushing on the end of the shaft that wears out allowing the gears on the two shafts not to mate anymore.

My uncle bought a four cylinder perkins and six speed transmission from a wrecked wonder bread truck. He put in a mid seventies four door GMC pickup. He was a driller and drove his crew to the rig for years in it. Ran about 60 mph on the highway when you got in high gear with just a little throttle. They called it the green lizard, they had a awful green shade they used back then.

I absolutely love that swap. I really like the idea of an old drivetrain in a newer truck. I want to put a 6.2 or 6.5 diesel in a gmt800. If I was you and wanted to make improvements for your swap, I'd look into some sort of overdrive solution.
@richiesrestorations4883 Жыл бұрын
I have 3:73s in my 74 CH5 Jeep with a 4 speed and it was spinning too fast for the Cummins 4BT. I ended up using an older transfer case with the PTO port so I could put a 25% auxiliary overdrive in. Boy did that ever make it so much nicer to drive. The way a diesel runs with 3:73 in direct, it feels like it wants an overdrive to me. Are you thinking of going to a 5 speed at some point in the future? Thanks for sharing your project.

6:20 Just a heads up, it looks like an oil breather or drain back tube has come off of a fitting on your oil pan. Now it’s open to have water, dirt/debris fall into your oil pan without the hose connected to it. Why are you running 2 alternators? At first I thought you might have a giant stereo in the truck. 15:10 I see you have a bunch of warning/dummy lights on the dash/instrument cluster. If you take the dash cluster out “ it’s really easy to do if you lower the tilt steering wheel you can remove the bulbs/circuits that make those lights turn on so you don’t have to look at them all the time.

Cool, I have a 1964 IH Loadstar 1800 with Perkins 6.354 turbo. 152 hp stock. Full air brakes, hydraulic power steering, and hydraulic clutch. IH 5 speed with low first gear and 2 speed EATON axle. 25,500 gvw. The engine runs great, and the truck drives very well for what it is. Someone took care of it. The more I learn about the Perkins 6.354 engine, the more I like it. I plan to add a divorced transfer case and modern 4x4 military axles; it will be easy to control the tire inflation and air lockers with the existing air system. Remove grain / dump bed, and install a twin boom Holmes 600. Be a good truck to install a fifth wheel on and use to pull antique tractors to shows. Unique truck itself; never seen another one. Loadstar's around here all have gas engines... I hope I can find a source for parts like gaskets in the US. Maybe tractor dealerships can help me. If not, maybe Canada, Australia, or Great Britain can be a source for parts. Hope to find a Perkins badge for the grill.
@K-Effect Жыл бұрын
I would leave all the international badging on the front of the truck but add a Perkins badge on each fender, that way it might look more like a factory option
@jhoncho4x4 Жыл бұрын
@@K-Effect That's what I was thinking; however it would have been done originally. I noticed that on the bigger trucks in Europe and Australia, where the Perkins is more common, they run one badge on the grill. If it's a car, they put a badge on the boot. I don't know if the front car grill has one to match or not.

@BubbaStew I am curious about the starter, too; or any parts sources. My Loadstar has the original Delco starter that was specified for those trucks. Will get it rebuilt if I suspect it is wore. It is a large starter and may already have a reduction unit.
