My ancestors are Joseph and Andrew Ellicott. We have been collecting the books about them and the families here in Rochester for the last few years that we have been researching our history

My children grew up on Bart's music. My son bought all the CD's for his children. Bart was such a blessing to Alexander. Train train was my favorite!

Had Dr. Ftizpatrick as a professor 20 years ago. Absolutely great to see him again. His knowledge of US military history was as stunning back then as it is today.

Just read Thomas Gahr's book, "Box-Shaped Heart". What happened to his daughters? What happened to Palmer's business?

how informative! I did not realize the Erie canal went all the way to new york city. im not sure where I thought it went, but not to NYC. How cool! I have rode on a steamboat a few times before and the operators/mechanics love talking about how the steamboat runs. I don't know much but I do know that there is 'perfect storm' so to speak on how to run a steamboat at optimization. you need to have the boiler at just the right temperature, and you operate off of a certain pressure of steam in the boiler to get the steamboat running smoothly. to little steam/to cool a boiler, and you run the risk of getting stuck in the middle of the lake. To much steam/to hot, and you run the risk of blowing up the boat. from what I asked, the operators said they didn't have the technology back then to know all this/operate like that. they just fired up the boilers the hottest they could get them and ran the piss out of the boat. thats why they all blew up.

When I first joined the Stafford Fire Department, there was still a lot of confusion as far as the numbering. We were dispatched to a chimney fire back in there. No smoke or fire was visible from the road A homeowner was on the back side of the house throwing glasses of water on the house. Yes, he had a drinking glass and was throwing water on the house. After the Chief at the time had figured out that it was back in there rather than the road he had driven back to it. The homeowner berated him for driving past his house etc. The chief looked him dead in the eye and explained that 1. the numbering made it difficult as well as it being nighttime. 2. He was driving his personal vehicle as a marked vehicle wasn't in the plans yet and 3, the chimney and yourself were behind the house, which makes it hard to see.

I have a signed copy of the book, and have bought 4 more copies for friends. I also have the audiobook through Audible. I’m an Alexander native, and Dee has done us proud. The story is heartbreaking, and I’m proud to call her my friend.

My parents told me that the Devil had been chained to the rock and went around and around in circles trying to get free, until he spiraled down into the ground all the way to Hell. Being a little kid, this scared me so bad that for a long time whenever we drove by Devil's Rock I would crouch down on the floor in the backseat to hide! (This was before the days of seatbelts, obviously.) 😄 I wonder if there were other gullible kids who fell for that story?
