LetsGoTactical, 25mm M919 is APFSDS-T, 30mm MK258 is APFSDS-T, you can look up 40mm APFSDS-T, 50mm APFSDS-T exists too, i think it’s supposed to be called XM1203, you can all look those up on google images. They probably have a slip obturation ring to help them function and not spin too much in rifled barrels, it’s just like with 105mm rifled guns and the Challenger 2’s 120mm rifled gun. I’m pretty sure people wouldn’t want to be shot with those, in 2023, we’re basically advanced enough for autocannon APFSDS-T now, it’s not the Cold War anymore where autocannon APFSDS-T is impossible, many modern IFVs have APFSDS-T ammo for their autocannons available now, APDS is obsolete unless it’s 20mm, 14.5mm, 12.7mm and under now. 25mm is now the new APFSDS-T minimum caliber. great work also fun fact ( not for the enemy ) but if you shoot at something like a M60 with BR-412D at the right angle and aim for the turret the round will punch thorough the armor and can fuse inside one of the crew members and the AAR looking like a 100MM air burst round detonated inside the turret. and then the dev's add gore i don't think that will be an image you're going to forget

@@letsgotactical2435 funny how everyone companies that soviet MBT's pop there turrets anytime they get shot and yet the same could be side for every NATO MBT before Abrams and other late NATO tanks also i think the M60 has the worst crew survivability of any tank in ghpc - it's as tall as a house - has simple steel armor - a rolling ammo rack and also everything is very close to one another at least the t55 has it small size and the T-72's carousel is at the bottom of the tank. the thing that messes up the T72 is the ammo for the 2nd reload that is also %100 likely to get hit also the T72 has composite armor on the hull and the KVARTZ turret + the 16mm add-on plate for the hull on the M1

In 1970’s T-72 keep US tankers in Europe actually awake at night. 125mm gun , low profile sheer numbers and far advanced design compare to T-62 or T-55 was something to recon with. US attention and resources was spend in Vietnam leaving European theatre dangerously exposed. Short term solution was perfecting “combined arms doctrine” leveraging assets like TOW or Air Power to have standing chance in fight. Long term was technological Army revamp , bering fruits in early 80’s with Abrams , Bradley, Apache , Kevlar Helmet , GPS, etc. Even just before Desert Storm , tank crews been worried about facing T-72’s and no one suspect it will be actually such a one sided fight. M60 linage is direct line from M26 Pershing, a WW2 tank . So despite all refinements it was already very obsolete by 1970’s. Hence projects like MBT-70 , Chieftain/Challenger 1 been heavily researched since 1965.

Well yes, APHE is a killer for side hits but APFSDS-T is a killer for frontal hits, it’s way better in terms of penetration than APHE, that’s why APFSDS-T is the main armor piercing tank ammunition type and not APHE. Also, what are your favorite tanks? My favorite tank is the M1A2 Abrams MBT by the US Army, it’s the best American tank in the world. And about the M60 tank, are they used as target practice now?

Since autocannon (25mm, 30mm, 35mm, 40mm, 50mm) APFSDS-T rounds exist in real life, API ammo for autocannons is basically obsolete, right?
@letsgotactical2435
@letsgotactical2435 8 ай бұрын
25mm M791 is a APDS-T. Auto canons are not smooth bore but riffled , so stabilisation is achieved by spin instead of fins. Due to small diameter of projectile it will be prohibitively expensive and difficult to fit fins in such small package, not mention a “set ring” . For example British L11 riffled gun require to use “set ring” with its “ FIN “ shot (British name for APFSDS-T) to reduce spin and energy wastage. Decision behind to develop L11 gun as riffled, was motivated primary to allow use of HESH ammunition , and for APFSDS was actually a limiting factor. So as all auto-canons are riffled then APDS is probably better option.

Quite realistic situation. Against Thermal Sights your only option is to stay away from where enemy is looking. Apparently In battle of 73 Easting Iraqi Type-69 parked behind building in Al Busayyah town let approaching elements of US 2nd “Iron Brigade” to pass and open fire from rear flank, albeit ineffective. No one was scanning in that direction as everyone was focusing on what was ahead. It cause instant confusion and order was called to disengage After “grid box” been cleared M270 MRLS strike was dropped. You could technically say that this lone Type-69 managed to delayed whole brigade assault.

I think 30x173 have best developed ammo park right now, and best balance of round size to amount of ammunition carried. Have recently read about 50x228 (airburst fused HE-FRAG) and started seeing a merit in bigger shell size . Apparently lethality on entrenched personnel in airburst mode is estimated to be sixfold compared to 30mm. Another advantage is effective fire from 3000m! and dual use as anti-air. Unfortunately didn’t find any articles about kinetic AP round in 50x228 yet.

Why do you think that 50x228mm ammo would be carried less than 35x228mm ammo when the only difference is that the 50x228mm is just a necked up full bore 35x228mm, the casing diameter is the same for both rounds which means that if the width isn’t any different and the 50x228mm height is barely even taller, you might as well go for the more powerful option since using less shots to destroy vehicles is better, because which is better, going gradually from 30 to 35 to 40 to 45 or so on or making a big leap from 30 to 50mm or maybe it’s just me preferring even numbers, like I mean do you prefer autocannon cartridge projectile numbers to be even or odd? Also, how much of a huge upgrade do you think 120x570mmR is over 105x617mmR? I think it was a big and important upgrade. Anyways, good content
@letsgotactical2435
@letsgotactical2435 11 ай бұрын
Yes , you right on that one. Bulk of cartridges will be roughly the same. My point is about general concept of employment of auto-canon. 35mm will feel to operate as beefed up 30mm , but 50mm more like medium artillery. And 35mm AP-I may have actually better performance then 50mm one. (More powder to propel smaller round giving it bigger kinetic energy) Regarding NATO 120mm. It is apparently designed effect of German research on what is maximum practical weight, length and bulk of tank round to be effectively and rapidly hand loaded. Anything heavier then 20kg is getting difficult for loader to handle. Shorter length is beneficial , as rounds in turret bustle are stored with warheads pointing away from crew compartment and need to be “flip” before going to breach. Obviously 120mm is better concept then 105mm as it been developed to replace former but apparently US 105mm DU M833 had better performance then German Tungsten 120mm DM23 . It was probably due self-sharpening effect of DU and more mature development of US round. Way of development for future tanks gonna be probably autoloader with 130mm Rheinmetal gun or maybe some 120mm “magnum” rounds with longer case , allowing to use longer Sabot penetrator and have more “powder” behind it.
