I once compared 2 pairs of Kauffmann guitars: 2 teles and 2 strats with either Paulownia or Maple. The 2 pairs were exactly the same (same neck/fretboard wood, same wiring/electronics components, same pickups, ..) except the body wood. I was blown away by the difference that only the body wood provided. Of course 2 different guitars have many differences despite being twins (like #windings of the pickups, tolerances of electronics components, pickup height,...), but even considering that, the difference was clearly caused by the different wood , because both pairs of guitars showed the exact same type of difference. In both comparisons, the paulownia body resonated more with high pitched frequencies, missing some of the low end that the maple ones had, but also enhancing the higher frequency spectrum which lead to more clarity in the harmonics. For this reason in my opinion the paulownia Tele sounded phenomenal. That wood really made its Twang shine ! Of course the Maple one was gorgeous too, but I preferred the way Paulownia body treated the higher spectrum of that Tele. I think it would help the guitar to be heard more clearly in a mix, especially in bands with more than 4 members/instruments. On the other hand, in the Strat comparison I preferred the Maple one. Maple made the Strat sound more even and balanced , allowing me to really get that hendrix-crunchy attack we all know and love . The Paulownia made the Strat too quite and thin, also enhancing the higher frequency spectrum, but in this case not as nicely as for Teles. Let's say that Paulownia Teles sound more sparkly and bell-like, whereas Paulownia Strats tend to sound a bit too thin. I'm not saying that it sounds bad though. It might even be something someone would want, but it's not the case for me. Also, consider that Paulownia guitars are crazy light ! We're talking about 2.5-2.8 kg, which is a blessing for your back. For this reason though, you MIGHT (not necessarily) need a padded strap to prevent a slight neck dive when playing standing, being the body so absurdly light. I'm not talking about the Gibson SG neck dive, not even close, but anyway a bit more than a regular maple fender (which usually has indeed Zero neck dive).

It's true what they say about torrified tops there's something weird happening in the high frequencies of that PreWar. D-18 Standard held up really well with those others two which are more than double the price 😎

American made Guild acoustics have a 12" radius fretboard. I had a D50 whose neck was very much like an electric guitar neck.

Swamp Ash and Paulownia sound great. Paulownia maybe 5% better, it is lighter and resonates better I think, personally. But this has to be declared by scientific researches...

Why do you add reverb and add processing to the sounds when you review your guitars? I want to buy one but I don’t have a real sense of what it actually sounds like.

I would call that a balanced tone. Not bright or bassy.

For the few that have commented - This has to be one of the most bizarre "no chat" demos I have ever seen. FINE - play 3 Eastmans of different wood types but why on Earth would you play 2 Eastmans and throw in a Dowina with completely different wood tonality? As you can see from the few comments made - the viewers are making incredibly poor decisions off the back of this video - unless you were trying to put people off Dowina? We are the UKs largest Eastman dealer and I think its awesome that you sell Eastman and Dowina - both personal recommendations of mine. Dowina however offer something so incredibly unique and this video simply loses that completely. It is very rare we have an in store customer who would choose those guitars over a Dowina - but they do offer an awesome amount of guitar and they are brilliant etc but I just think if I were watching this without knowing the brands - I wouldnt pick the Dowina either - and they are my absolute favorite.

Acoustically it might be possible that there is a difference. I certainly don't think I would hear it. Through an amp and then YT there is, of course, no difference.

I play a very worn, battered 43 and love it to death. It's 12 years old and has a unique bluesy sound. Some session players I know say it beats their old Gibsons. . Of course the burst is darker - it's like me, I'm 74 and getting darker by the minute haha
