I’m not a big football fan, and I have totally different interest, I myself at 56 have certain traits of autism/Asperger’s and I had some moderate learning issues throughout life where I’d be recognised as slow within development. However, it hasn’t stopped me being able to live an independent life i e i’m so domestically independent including how I’ve been able to cook meals since I was 10 years old and younger given a chance. I was also somewhat poorly throughout my first year of life which wouldn’t havehelped. Especially during my early years, I had a condition known as echolalia, I’d go into a meltdown if something frightened me and or the cause wasn’t always known. It had been noticed I often go into a world of my own and put my hands up to my head and face and it would appear I showed other types of repetitive behaviour much of this I grew out of. As an adult, I cannot cope with too much at once and I’m still affected by loud noises and I have had and still can have issues taking in too much information at once. If I don’t know someone very well, I’m very sensitive to touch. I often found it very difficult to socialise though this has improved as I have got older. On the other hand, I noted as having a very unique details profound long term memory, including how I can remember exactly what the weather was like, the exact clothes I was wearing and that times what clothing others were wearing but it would have to be a specific event. I’ve also got a profound unique music and art talent so anyone on average can have talents sure enough but maybe, as I have sometimes being a slow learner and shows the above traits, this on the other hand could be the huge advantage we have in such talents. I reside in beautiful sheltered accommodation where there is low level Support I was living here we have to be independent which is fine but there is a support worker on hand and others around this type of accommodation suits me perfectly well and everyone has said, don’t ever move away if I were you and I have no intentions off as I have achieved a lot I’ll continue to.

Asperger's is no longer an official medical diagnosis, why do you claim to have it?
@thealexmanners2 жыл бұрын
I still use the term Asperger's as that is what I was diagnosed with when I was younger. Also, I know that people still have an understanding of what the term means. To say that I have Autism would in my opinion be a bit vague and may confuse people.
@SilentReports2 жыл бұрын
For me, autism is a spectrum of symptoms not individual identities. Some people that i've personally met (not suggesting you are) seem a bit too keen to highlight the HFA label of their diagnosis, either as an ego thing or shame of being associated with non-verbal autism. I'm just autistic myself and recognise all autistic people as autistic. There's no confusion in that acceptance for me. There's also the fact Asperger sent some of us to death during World War Two. Anyway, I have forwarded my opinion and thanks very much for your response. I don't wish to seem disrespectful. Take care my Asperger or Aspie friend!

Whether it is an official medical diagnosis or just another label used to separate them from us, the result is still the same: another excuse for prejudice and ignorance. A rose by any other name...

I have Asperger's, but I'm an older person. I was diagnosed 2013-14, if I remember correctly. I see a lot about autism & children, but not so much about older people with Asperger's. Where could I look for this, or who does that sort of thing, please?

Thank you, pleased you like my video. I also feel very lucky as I don't know anyone who has died from Covid. I think its only when you know someone who has got it that it will really hit home. We all have to be careful and stay safe whilst also keeping on top of our mental health. Being able to now see some of my friend and family has made everything much easier to cope with.
