Hi Kit, I actually have a this lure along with the smaller version, really like the two lures, but as much as I like them they don't really catch fish unless there's a school of bait and a frenzy of activity. I removed the middle treble to try and get the lure moving better. I never thought of using single or double jig hooks, can you advise if the lure has performed better? Have you used it since removing the trebles? Thanks, great idea.

Did you use the heavy cord on purpose? Would a lesser dense cord allow for a better action ?
@TheFishingKitКүн бұрын
I've had bad days and good days with these lures. to be honest with you, they are not my first choice and only use them when they are close to the bait the fish are feeding on - so they aren't really my first choice. I haven't fished them extensively to have a say on the matter.

Hey Kit! Amazing informational video. How does max drag output come into play when considering reels. OJ1500 seems to make the most sense for my fishery, targeting bottom rock fish from 150-700ftmax. Will provide enough line capacity and be a nice light setpup overall. Rockfish and lingcod aren't too demanding on drag so 1500 with appropriate line seems to fit for the depth. When targeting stronger pelagic species such as yellowtail, barracuda, smaller grade tuna will i need a higher effective drag for the fight? The max drag output of 10kg of the OJ2000 are what others recommend, but then at the compromise of heavier weight and narrower spool like you mentioned. This is there i was also considering the Daiwa Saltiga 15 SJ as it can pack close to 600m of pe2 line and provides higher drag output (10kg) than the OJ1500 with smaller increase in weight. Overall i am stressing over ~100g but considering your advice that even that much weight can make a difference when jigging all day. Main purpose is for deeper bottom jigging, but want the reel to be able to handle pelagic if the boat runs into a nice school. it may be a job for two reels I'm thinking. Difficult to have one tool to cover a broad spectrum. Look forward to hearing some of your feedback! Thank you!
@TheFishingKit5 күн бұрын
700ft is 213m, when I fished the OJ, 1500 we regularly hit 250m. It performed well - was my main reel for quite a lot of years before I switched to the L30, which is my main reel now. Like you said, its a job for two reels, however, not a job a 1500 can't lift from time to time. Max drags don't really matter as much as a stable drag (doesn't lose drag or doesn't spike it up), which shimano is pretty good at. Smooth drags - no problem...shimano has that covered as well. The problem you might have where you fish at are the nature of the boats (party boats) if you are fishing private, then your life will be better off, if you are fishing on party boats...will not be easy as they cater for the majority and it is not the vertical jigging crowd, but the bait slingers at the back.
@ericlikewhoa5 күн бұрын
@@TheFishingKit yes, the nature of the party boats and the endless amount of tangles. It is a challenge finding enough room to drop to stay vertical. Shimano no doubt offers smooth drag. but i also notice that most Slow Pitch specific reels do not tend to have astronomical drag numbers. I recall an older post where Benny Ortiz mentions the "effective" drag from the 1500 is closer to 12lbs, while the 2000 maxes out at 22lb so can fish it at 15lb for larger fish that run. also considering its safer to leave a few clicks left on drag as opposed to having to fish it locked down. What purposes do you fish a 2000 for? Deeper applications than the 1500?
@TheFishingKit5 күн бұрын
@@ericlikewhoa Firstly, slow jigging is a finesse technique, this is something people should understand. Shimano makes "standard reels" Meaning, mass produced that will work for a specific technique. MAss producing means settling on something that will work, not really what is perfectly correct - so, the frame for the 2000 is supposed to be for fast jigging, and to save on costs, they slapped a faster gear on it and called it a slow jigging reel - they tried to correct this with the 3000LD - if you dig in this channel, you will find a discussion on reels and why I didn't use the 2000 for slow jigging. The only 2000 I ever had was for fast jigging.

Do you know the difference between the triplecross shore jigging model and the crosride 5g? The technical details ara almost identical, I can´t figure out the diference

the difference is in the componentry and the blank construction. Triple Cross is mid range level so the components and the construction isn't "top end" so to speak.

@TheFishingKit15 күн бұрын
Think about this...you can change to a PE 4 reel, then you choose an HG or an XG...would that help you when it comes to easing the pain? upgrading is a matter of buying the right tools for the job. and 20kg on a 6000 sized PG reel such as this one is actually ideal. up to 40kg for this combo is ideal.
@firdaussaparudin349715 күн бұрын
Don’t quite understand, PE4 reel meaning 8000 size? PE3 setup sufficient for 20-40kg tuna?
@TheFishingKit14 күн бұрын
@@firdaussaparudin3497 I am talking about ratios. an upgrade to say a 6000 with a bigger spool (after market) or a size upgrade to one or two sizes higher but with a higher ratio than a PG (since this is a jigging related video) will not be efficient. Fighting fish of any size depends on quite a few things not just gear, your style, your rod, your drag, and your skill come into play. for tuna up to 40kg, , a PE3 combo would actually be comfortable to use - given you have the skill, settings and the combo properly set up. End of the day, gear is just one part of the equation.

You dont really hook more with two assist hooks - one hook done right will work and move better than two hooks done half assed. One hook prevents an outside force putting pressure on an anchorpoint that makes the entry hole bigger.

I made my fishing gear according to your video and everything has been positive but lately I have had problems regarding my fishing line and it is that 0.6 with 8x flies fantastic and is very resistant but sometimes certain local fish that have teeth attack the jig falling and do not see the line they get tangled with it and cut it very easily with any friction. As you can see my idea. I have already bought an additional coil for my stradic and when I fish in the spot near home on the rocks I use Varivas 4x 0.8PE to have more support to the stone and to fish on the beach Varivas 8x 0.6PE which I have more than proven that the 10g jig flies! I await your response. Your videos have been very useful to me because in my country and especially in my city nobody does this type of fishing. Greetings

the biggest and most obvious difference between 4x nd 8x is price, then the noise 4x lines make when they go through the guides. by function, there is very little difference except that 4x in deeper water has less stretch.
