When you do that, your screenplay is going to be mostly description - action, that means that a 40 pages screenplay can become a 90 minutes movie

There are very few production companies that allow unsolicited screenplays, if any at all. I've been looking for a while and have yet to find one. "Build relationships" is all I hear, but that is really next to impossible if there is no access. You can't access Producers on any social media, at least any that are legit. Markets and Festivals are possibilities, but access in those cases can be expensive. It would appear that Producers rely on Screenwriter managers and agents for material. So, I would suggest writers either raising money to shoot your script and hiring everyone to pull it off, which means you'll have to raise a hell of a lot of money and thus become the Producer, or work on getting a manager, which, from what I hear, is as difficult as finding a Producer.
@SoCreate

@gianthills thank you for watching! Finding a producer is no easy task; we didn't mean to suggest it was. But when you're not already embedded in Hollywood, these are some of the possibilities. Yes, it is a lot of time and effort, and the routes you mentioned are also great options but, as you also mentioned, can be very expensive. We recently worked with another industry veteran who suggested a few other ways to find producers; you may want to check out that article here: www.socreate.it/en/blogs/screenwriting/how-to-find-a-producer-as-a-screenwriter We appreciate the info you shared and I do hope you find some inroads! Happy writing :)

@@SoCreateThanks for getting back! Really appreciate it. I had a look at the article, and some good suggestions there, all of which I have tried. The point about using the contact information as a means to break the "no unsolicited materials" wall, is a little foggy on how that would work. I just don't see a Producer with a busy schedule taking time out to chat to a stranger. The other issue is, you can't just go after every and any Producer out there; they have to fit the genre you've written. My best shot at a Producer was a few years ago when I met a Producer/ Distributor at TIFF who liked a teaser I wrote and directed. He asked for the screenplay, but it stopped there. This is the teaser. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYjCaJiBhrimj9k

@@gianthills ooooh that's a chilling teaser! You're right; it's a shame that there's so much that's really out of a writer's hands once they're finished with their script. So many incredible stories never see the light of day for this reason. At SoCreate, we're actually building a really amazing platform that will make it easier to share your scripts with the world without the gatekeepers. We're getting ready to launch it this summer, and we're looking for writers who have scripts that they'd like to submit for it if you're interested! We're looking for all genres, all lengths. If you'd like to see a demo and see if it makes sense for you to submit any of your screenplays, head to SoCreate.it/en/company, click "Contact Us" and a chat window will pop up. I can send you a link to schedule a demo from there.

Currently, their schedule of minimums states that a screenwriter is to earn around $117k for an original screenplay for a high budget film, whilTV gets a little more complicated. You can check out all the salary data here! www.wga.org/uploadedFiles/contracts/2023_Schedule_of_Minimums.pdf

You won't get work as a writer. You'll have to write for years to get good at it and even then, getting a producer to consider you is near impossible without representation. That is why so many writers just shoot their own material.

Uff! I am sorry to say that I would be ashamed to admit that I was a television writer…or even a movie screen writer where your words are shredded and changed haphazardly by producers and directors. It is essentially, at best, a first draft. A story which serves as skeletal framework for constant change. We might’ve asked F. Scott Fitzgerald what HE thought about screen writing…had it not KILLED him!

If anyone ask me how do you become a movie producer working for marvel or just becoming a film producer period I would say is you will have to probably start out being a screenwriter first to get to know everyone in the industry because of you don't know anyone then you want be a film producer, actor, or screenwriter. Working around big time actors seems like unreal. I am writing a screenplay and I want to be a producer but I honestly don't see myself being surrounded by huge movie stars like Will Smith, Denzel Washington, Salma Hayek I don't see myself being around people that rich. I used to see them in TV when I was a little girl now. I am a grown woman trying to be a film producer but I just don't see myself being there boss or being around them. I think becoming a film producer is an unrealistic job because I can't picture myself being around people like that I am like a small ant to them they're huge movie stars.

Hey Star Bright! It's best in any industry to get to know all of the roles required to get to the end product, and that includes the film industry. You should have a great understanding of what every person in the filmmaking process is responsible for doing and how to do it well. You may be working with big movie stars, but it's important to remember that they're people just like you and me! If you're great at what you do, you'll command respect. You're no small ant! Your stories and your purpose matter.

There is a saying that I think was first said by Henry Ford that goes “Whether you think you can, or you think you can't - you're right,” I love this saying so much as it has always resonated with me. It is a saying we always use in my family. Even if the outcomes we desire seem so far away from where we are right now, we can only get there if we keep pushing forward and believing we will get there. As long as we keep doing that, the goal will get a little closer every day and our belief in achieving it will grow until success is inevitable. All of the people in the world that have achieved great things had to believe they could. Believing in far away things is not easy, but it is better to believe and not achieve, than to never believe at all. I believe in you!
@starbright6579
@starbright6579 Жыл бұрын
@@justincouto Yeah, but Justin. I don't believe in being a movie producer working around someone that big like huge rich actors like Mark Wahlberg, Tyrese Gibson, and Will Smith to name a few. I don't believe that because when people are that famous they would not even want to work with you if you're a nobody; it's not like I am a big producer like Tyler Perry or even Steven Spielberg. Rich people cling to rich people, rich people talk to rich people, rich people date rich people, rich people respond to rich people. If you're not rich they will ignore you because you're not on there level. I am a writer and my fiction characters are rich and in my story my billionaire and millionaire fictional characters don't hang with poor people in my book because they are rich and it's even like that in the real world we're living in. That's why when I was calling and emailing those prop masters no one answered me why? Because they don't know me, now if I was Tyler Perry yes they will answer me then. It's very hard to break into Hollywood, even an actress was saying how hard it is to break into Hollywood and the only reason she is in is because she was a guest starring on Grey's anotomy and yes even she was saying they don't want no one sitting next to them if you're not big. Listen to her because she knows. However what I do believe in is starting a business; that is possible, but working with actors I don't believe that will ever happen. But I do believe I can start and own a business for $85,000 because I know a lot of people who once was poor and now are small business owners and big business owners that has 500 employees, but being a film producer that seems a little fake yes you can make millions by starting your own business even I it's small but I do not believe in making millions by making movies and being around Oprah Winfrey and Will Smith.

Making a living as a screenwriter is extremely difficult. Now back when Quintin Tarantino write his first script and had it sold in 1995 that wasn't hard because back then people watched tv and also back then the movie theaters used to be packed with capicity, now when I walk in a movie theater it only 8-10 people in a room. Also back then in 1995 (175 ) screenplays were sold, now in 2022 only (20) scripts been sold. See the difference.

@@SoCreate I saw this video of all these screenwriters talking about how they left their day jobs to move to California to pursue there Screenwriting career, one lady even left her $100k job to become a screenwriter in Hollywood. She got three scripts sold, written three books, and now is a screenwriting consultant doing proofreading on clients screenplays. I would've kept my $100k job instead of pursing screenwriting, that was a crazy thing that lady did. When I look at these screenwriters they look so unhappy, it just looks like they have been through so much to get there script sold. I notice I was feeling the same way when people was telling me you have to know people in the film industry and you also have to know the A-list actors as well and the fact that I'm a female trying to be a screenwriter and work my way up to be a producer would not ever happen. I had a script consultant ask me. "So, do you want to be a filmmaker or a police officer?" I told her I'll rather be a police officer because at least I know my bills will get paid, I will have money to buy me food, and I will have a retirement plan being a cop. Being a filmmaker even a screenwriter I don't know if my bills will get paid.

@@starbright6579 it's true, most creative endeavors - screenwriting included - mean that you are working as a freelance artist. That means that you don't necessarily have a steady paycheck like say, a police officer. But, some people find that the creative fulfillment is worth it to them. Others don't find it worth it. It is very dependent on the person and their life goals.
