Hi, thanks for the informative video. I'm a complete newbie! Can I please ask about availability during school holidays? We are a family of 3 and I am thinking about starting collecting via Clubcard and the VA credit card but I am concerned we won't be able to get upgrades on the dates that we'll need. How do you actually book upgrades? Thanks
@born2skydive172

Hi Frankie, hope you and your family are all good. The 1st thing I have to say is there is a lot involved with your question. Also I have no idea about school holidays, when they are in the UK. Some pointers: 1) Google UK sites a) headforpoints, b) turningleftforless, c) insideflyer.co.uk... These are the best resources for UK travel hackers. 2) rule of thumb is checking aware availability ASAP is best. I think it is around 355 days from memory. You'll be able to find reward availability, school hols seems to the in with peak (premium on rewards bookings). 3) Do the maths (not math as those maverick Yankees would say 😎). Some of the best value I have got with VS is buying for economy delight - 150% miles and upgraded to uppercase and once premium back from us (not 1p extra tax). 4) think about partnership VS has with delta and KLM / Air France Ex EU and see if that would work better for you as a family. Hope this helps. 🛫

5) erm sorry forgot the crux at the end of your Q messuir. Booking an upgrade involved checking there is a reward ticket(s) available 1st. Then dining Virgin and upgrading. Please note economy LIGHT tickets can't be upgraded. What is good unlike HE is you can upgrade from economy to upper, not just one class up 😀

Interesting video. Just a quick question, what made you choose Virgin Flying Club over British Airways Executive Club? It's a decision I need to make.

Hi Michael, thanks for your kind comment. For me single guy (2-4-1 etc competitive adv means nothing) travelling and that I get a ridiculous amount of virgin points from Tesco won out. With debit card I get 5 points per GBP. Also BA charges you a silly amount for a seat reservation even in business class. Combine this with clever points Delta/KLM/air France to euro cities business class for 5.60 GBP in taxes from states. Also I've flown BA and generally find the UK passengers snobs.
@michaelrogers6574
@michaelrogers6574 3 жыл бұрын
@@born2skydive172 thanks for the quick reply. I agree with you, as a single traveller myself the 2-4-1 voucher is no use to me either. When you fly to the states, do you then buy two single one way tickets to avoid the taxes as opposed to getting a return ticket?
@born2skydive172
@born2skydive172 3 жыл бұрын
@@michaelrogers6574 in terms of buying tickets with cash I would always buy return or open jaw return. All airlines charge a fortune for one way. With one way economy tickets sometimes well over 1k GBP. Defo a great idea tho booking single tickets when only using points. Long haul ADP (think it's called) is crippling long haul from UK. Next time I fly to US going to delta points DUB to USA (thus go thro pre clearence) then look at flight back to EU city (e.g. MAD or AMS) via 2 X one way business class. Hope this helps 😎

Virgin airmiles never expire

Virgin Air Miles credit card is awful. For Summer 2021 to get me, the Wife and two kids from London to Orlando has cost me £2200, including baggage (economy), so £550 each. For 2022 I was thinking of using my Virgin air miles, which I need 45,000 miles per person. I think I will have around 90,000 miles by Spring 2022 so 2 free flights you might think, but no. Just looked, and firstly I cannot fly out at the weekend, and secondly each return "free" flight is 45,000 air miles ....... and £265. The word free obviously has a different meaning in my world to Richard Branson's. The flight is £285 cheaper than with no points at all. I've tried quite hard to build my points to get to the air miles I have so to get to the end and things aren't what they seem is disappointing. Should of known it was too good to be true when Richard Branson is involved!!!!

Hi Clay not sure how different it is in the states. I love the Cookie brand and after uploading my AFF course from Spain and tunnel time I literally rang and emailed. Got limited sponsorship from them (30% discount). From aon2 for the alti I saw an advert in my BPA mag, again rang and emailed. Got a free alti for honest review. Conclusion - reach out, email, phone - worst that can happen is they say no. The discount on gear from above paid for 50,% of formation skydiving stuff😎 hope this gives you some ideas
