Nice. I've needed this feature for years. Also, creating the dimensioned drawing you can pass around makes it easy for people to review the design without having specific software.

The company i work for has a system that requires nesting programing and punching around 9,000 unique parts with all different shapes in in 24 hrs with one punch and not even a full time programmer 🫠😉

None of the examples in this video are even remotely waterproof examples. Instead of pretending or saying you can't, start over and fix the problem with a better design.

Thanks for the feedback! We are always looking to improve. This video was meant to be an overview of the different design options available, with a focus on weather resistance, but we'll definitely look at creating more videos on specific applications and deeper dives into waterproof designs.

If you're viewing an assembly, you also need to turn off "Large Assembly Settings" for this to be enabled.

Is there a way to alter the template based objects? I'm trying to move the atx cutout but it doesn't seem to be interactable. The atx cutout spawns at the corner of the enclosure and with a fixed number of pcie expansion slots. Im trying to alter it to accomodate more expansion slots.
@ProtocaseInc
@ProtocaseInc 4 ай бұрын
Hey Ryan, thanks for reaching out with your question! Is it the ATX enclosure that you're customizing? We also have an ATX PCI cutout in the Library, so just wanted to clarify first. :)
@ryankossick5791
@ryankossick5791 4 ай бұрын
@@ProtocaseInc Yes I was looking over the atx template. I also saw the other cutouts for an atx motherboard.
@ProtocaseInc
@ProtocaseInc 4 ай бұрын
@@ryankossick5791 Ah, okay, gotcha. The ATX template's initial cutouts and other items are not editable, unfortunately. However, you could start with an L-Shape template (since that is the same shape as the ATX template) and add the ATX and other cutouts you need from the library. Let us know if that workaround helps!

You can also cross-break in some cases.

One of the neat things we got protocase to do on our design was to add about 15-20 little holes on either side of the enclosure in a neat chevron style for aesthetics then if the customer needs they can mount the enclosure to get convection. We also had them design a cool L shaped ALU bracket that screwed onto the inside and sat on the CPU so it diverted heat from the cpu into the metal case. We were really pleased with the design!

I typically add decals to my models for this, but also include the vector graphic itself for the graphics team to use. I always have the box checked for [store appearance, decal, scene data in model file] + [store images for OLE object data in model file] under Document Properties -> Model Display. - Then I don't worry about forgetting to include any referenced image data with my parts.

How do you mitigate the formation of aluminum oxide which is not conductive and could create a large contact resistance as the ends of the bus bar?
@ProtocaseInc
@ProtocaseInc 5 ай бұрын
Keeping the surface cool, dry and isolated from oxygen would be fundamental for preventing oxidization. However, the best way would be to apply any type of protective coating.

Tin plating would be considered a good form of corrosion protection, similar to how powdercoat would also protect the metal.

Really impressive! but I didn't get it well when it comes to Medical application, why does Co-POM suit better than H-POM? Thanks!
@ProtocaseInc
@ProtocaseInc 7 ай бұрын
Great question! Aceteal Copolymer (Co-POM) has better long term resistance to corrosion and has low moisture absorption. Its also much more chemically resistant in the long-term than Acetal Homopolymer. If we are talking about short-term mechanical properties, than you would have no problem with H-POM. Hope this answer clears it up for you. Thanks!

Why do I not get any of those alignment options? And if I right click on the face "alignment" option is grayed out. I'm trying to centre a single cut out to the entire case and not multiple objects.

You went into depth about the radius of inside corners, but the radius of outside corners is just as important. its real easy in cad to add fillets to round over all the edges, but endmills to not like to round over the top of your parts unless you have a fancy contouring mill.

How does chemical conversion coating effect welding? We have a 5052-H34 large cabinet (6ft) that will be in an out door enviroment. do i need to weld the parts prior to finish?
@ProtocaseInc
@ProtocaseInc Жыл бұрын
Hi there, we checked with our team, and they had a couple points: -You would want to weld before chem filming, because the process of welding (and grinding the welds so they're smooth, etc) would remove the chem film coverage from the welded areas. This would increase the likelihood of corrosion for those areas that were welded. -However, one important note is that our chem film tanks can accommodate 43.5“L x 34”W x 30“H (diagonal of 49"). So we wouldn't have the capabilities in-house to chem film a cabinet that large. We can always look into third-party suppliers. Hope that helps!

Hello, how to deal with hemming of the mitered corners? Is there any solution? Example: If I want to hem part like you in the video, only with the mitered corners. Thank you.
@ProtocaseInc
@ProtocaseInc Жыл бұрын
Hi there, we checked with our Engineering & Design Services team, and they said: "For our process of doing hem bends, if you required miter flanges we would need to remove the bend radius in the areas where the length is less than 0.5in. However, we would recommend going with how it is designed in the video." We have a screenshot of how it would look to remove the bend radius, but you can't attach a pic to a comment on KZbin. 😕

I would like to point out that CMT is not a pulsed-arc process. It is a modified short-circuit where the droplet detaches as the wire feed direction is reversed.
