18:51 haha, In The Aeroplane Over The Sea was the first record I ever bought! It must've been over a decade ago at this point. A fantastic record front to back.

We need a 2024 update. Countries like Japan where the medium didnt die and even now where vinyl is the most sold physical medium once again.

I had a record collection that I had been collecting since I was a wee lad and, unfortunately, it got trashed in a tornado, in 1996. It's taken me all these 28 years to build my collection back up. And to this day I've never downloaded music from the Internet. I am guilty of streaming.

I am sorry to be the one to piss on the fire here, and I love the documentary, but I am not that rich... I know we are not supposed to say the P word but that's a reality for me and no I cannot afford the books I want to read, not even the softcover, let alone the hardback. I would love a big vinyl collection but I can't afford it.

Vinyl was a goldmine when I started buying records. Nowadays, a visit to a records store is a hip way of starting the weekend for many. Good for the stores, bad for me. Prices have gone silly because of it. 50 dollars for a popular mass release is common practice. I mean, come on!! Fucking thieves!!! Hail to Spotify!!!!!

KZbin Premium is a better deal than Spotify. Add free videos, downloads, and unlimited music for a few dollars more, and if you are on Android, the songs sound better.

With vinyl you literally own art, with the album covers being a huge part , it's the only format that you get a displayable piece of art , sure you have CD album art but you just can't beat the look of a record album cover

I had the experience of hearing cd and vinyl heard on a high end $400k club system. The dj played all vinyl except for one track that hadnt hit stores yet. The sound was like night and day. Its why i still buy vinyl to this day. Great memories. Monday i was at the record stores hunting the new releases i had heard at that club in the weekend. What alot of people dont realise is cds have the frequency levels capped in the top and bottom end to accommodate the total time limits of the cd (usually around 74 mins) The mastering engineer could record full frequency to the cd but it would have limiting factors so the amount of potential tracks that would fit would not align with industry requirements. The same concept is the mp3, compress the file by losing data to fit more tracks on the available space. The trade off is diminishing sound quality. Others may want to elaborate. Chime in by all means.

I inherited my fathers record collection and it kick started everything for me. Spent several days going through the collection, cleaning and re-sleeving 100's of records. I was hooked. My happiest moments are discovering records stores and going in to find my next grail album.

The 1990s was the beginning of a dark age for vinyl records; which is when CDs started to be mass produced. From 2000 - 2010, the vinyl record was at its lowest point of relevance. The younger generations didn’t care about vinyl records enough to buy them. Online shopping diverted people from going to physical stores; which caused many record shops to close their doors for good. In the 2010s, vinyl records started to make a gradual comeback thanks to movies and television shows, such as “Stranger Things” and “Guardians of the Galaxy,” popularizing the 1970s and 1980s. As of 2023, vinyl records are high in demand. Growing up, there was only one place in town where I could buy vinyl records; a “Half Price Books” bookstore. Now there’s an actual record store/cafe; which has become a popular place for local college kids.

I'm not sure I can watch this ! I'm 5 min's in. I ran the most successful Line Dance Mail Order CD business in the world and carried "Every single Aulstralian Country Music CD available" plus a good selection of Country Music CD's imported in to the UK and pretty much 'over night' once copying etc. got a hold my business lost about 80% of it's sale's in a year. I had to 'sack' my 4 employee's and move to a smaller venue then work from home. I use to sell a lot of "Independant Artist's" music and it really hurt them to. They just stopped making CD's as they were instantly copied and sold on the cheep. So, it diddn't just hurt us Retailer's but "Kicked small, independent Artist's in the nut's, really bad, too". I was actually at this show. Will's Mom was in the audience, so they ended with the first song he ever wrote. "Love has Found Me Somehow". They never recorded it, but would play it live - especially when Will's mom was in the audience

Throughout the 90's and atleast early 00's the Punk kids keep releasing vinyl. I figure DJ with their 12" aswell. Any other groups? For me CD's were great for discographies and Comps. I sold records at punk shows from 2000-2004 and it was 90%+ vinyl. $3ish for ep's and $7ish for LP's.

vinyl breaking the seal opening the record and putting it on your turntable for the first time dropping the needle on the record you can’t fast forward an lp. each side is a commitment you can display the vinyl record you're able to touch it it’s got art that’s meant to be looked at. meant to be touched the liner notes are integral to the experience there’s something sacred about the whole thing -FROM "VINYL NATION"

Half of these record store owners I would try and avoid like the plague - they talk too much and charge too much for their precious records. Why put up with that shit when you can get a thousand records at a church yard sale for like 15 bucks. I never shop in record stores- the owners are way too precious about their merchandise.

It's funny how vinyl has made a comeback. What i dont think the kids get these days is that the record has to be AAA not DAA which defeats the pure information packed original anaglog waveform that make records superior to 44hz WAV files on cds. I dare say they are paying 30$ for new records reissued from digital masters, though to be fair the digital source files are most likely 96hz which is a recording standard in the studio which is twice the info on cds. So my question is: When new bands decide to put out an lp release, are they recording in the multi track studio in analog wave forms to put out AAA or are they recording onto digital. DAA. Whats the point of putting out an lp unless it's AAA? If they are not, then just release a cd in a nice lp sized cardstock folder and the kids can roll their joints on that while they groove on all the art work and liner notes ? Otherwise who wants to pick off all the dandruff and hair flecks of the record and needle.

I like records. Especially white label 90s dance music records. There is just something so personal about these individual records that you don't see on regular releases. Promo copies are the same. My favorites are a record with a sticker on the groove to help with scratching, a single-sided promo white label, a unreleased Basement Jaxx single, my very first record (Blank & Jones - After Love) that came with the sleeve for System F (Ferry Corsten)'s "Cry" and more. Getting techno records in Canada is so hard!!!!!
