I took my first drink the second I awoke And as my head began to sink I felt that my heart just broke I fall to my knees, what else can I do? I'm prayin' to God but I'm callin' for you I swear that I've tried everything but suicide And every day is still the same With each new tear, the same old pain is here Oh death, you'll have so little left to claim I stare in the mirror at a man I hardly knew I'm prayin' to God but I'm callin' for you I swear that I've tried everything but suicide And every day is still the same With each new tear, the same old pain is here Oh death, you'll have so little left to claim I stare in the mirror at a man I hardly knew I'm prayin' to God but I'm callin' for you I'm prayin' to God but I keep callin' for you

I've been to see Charley Crockett 3 times across Texas, each show he mentions James as his friend, and pays his respects before singing his music. Always a great performance. Rest in peace Slim.

I miss ole slim a lot. I woke up this morning & was thinking about him a lot. So I got out my favorite acoustic (a jumbo heritage model Gretsch) and played, Just A Heart & A Floor To Crawl. Seemed like the thing to do. Does anyone know who handles his music affairs?

@@palandpalette2136I first learned of James because I'm a huge fan of Cindy's steel playing, so started checking him out some seven or eight years ago and have been a fan ever since. I got a real shock when I belatedly learned of his passing. James just seemed to have a really great air about him and he should have been so much bigger than he was. You are so very lucky to have me the great man himself.

Good tele player. Just a little heavy on the effects for me. That Duane Eddy sound is not in vogue anymore.

Pardon me. I should have said "Sounds like shit." If you don't believe me, ask another guitar player .

A G&L played through a Fender tweed with reverb? Not in vogue? That sound is pure and it defines a musical genre. It will live forever, thanks to young players like Chris.

Less is more. Listen to Redd Volkart play this song.
@chrismcelrath9098 Жыл бұрын
@@Venetiababy1 Redd Volkaert is actually a friend of mine. In fact, the amp I was playing through here used to belong to him. I used to kick on some tremolo on two or three songs that James Hand did, this being one, and no other effects for some three and a half hours of what were typically four hour shows. Sue me. I've heard my friend Redd play the song dozens of times. But I don't copy what other players do. I play a song the way I feel I want it to sound. Trust me, plenty of people like what I do just fine. James Hand was a great artist and friend who is no longer with us. I just find it odd that someone would use a random KZbin video of show from a deceased artist (this was actually the last live show he ever played before he passed, btw) as a soapbox to come and critique the guitar playing of a total stranger.

Me and my buddy drove from Missouri to Texas to see James Hand play at The little longhorn saloon Years ago. They were having bad flooding, and he didn’t make it. The bartender saw how sad I was, and called him up and handed me the phone. I got to talk to him for a few minutes, and I told him his music touched my heart. I just found out he passed yesterday. I always dreamed of sitting around a camp fire, having a cold beer with him , while he played an acoustic guitar. Maybe someday if I make it to heaven. Rip James you will be missed
