As a kid, it was all the superhero stuff I was into. Watching again as an adult I appreciate everything else that was going on. I think It was one of those shows that dads could enjoy with their children. Bill was also great in 'House'.

Yes the episode is real, the teaser is my creation that I did for fun since one doesn't exist. NBC ordered a pilot presentation in 1986, when the network passed on it the presentation was padded out to make a full episode and it was added to the shows syndication package in the late 80s. It doesn't currently run with the series.

William Katt was born crazy for his successful role as Ralph Hinkley, a high school teacher who became a modern day “superhero” through trial and error. Robert Culp was no slouch either. He portrayed the gruff, no-nonsense FBI Agent Bill Maxwell who used Ralph to help stop criminals from breaking the law. And the lovely Connie Sellecca (of future “Arthur Hailey’s Hotel” fame) was ADA Pam Davidson, Ralph’s girlfriend and eventual wife, who assisted the two sometimes on their missions.

I hated the voice over for Ralph.... I remember watching this at my sisters.. I recorded this at her home... I still have this on tape provided the flood and restoring what was saved from the flood being stored in the gerauge... Even though my brother in law cut on me... Thank you for all you do here to keep the memory of this series alive. I never paid attention or knew about the syndication anomalies until I started seeing your videos. Thankfully I checked my tapes and I do have the Pam Davison credit as well as the Pam Hinckley credit for Connie on my old Betamax tape episodes of “The newlywed game and “Live at Eleven” Eventually I’ll have to re-cut and re edit some of these episodes that were badly truncated on the Dvds

This is one episode I saved on my original ABC Betamax recording. My copy has the trailers and mid station break as well. Recently transferred it to DVD. I remember the season started late in fall 1981 due to a writers strike and baseball play offs. Which I guess was the reason for the baseball episode to be aired first. I remember watching Spoilsport the following week thinking why wasn't this one used for the season opener!

I thought the same thing about Spoilsport working as the season opener back then, and imagine my surprise years later when a friend that worked at the local ABC station gave me a dozen or so GAH photo's with press sheets attached and I found out it was originally supposed to be the season premiere. I have a question about your Betamax recordings. Could you please drop me a line when you have a moment at [email protected] Thanks!!!!

@tgaharchives1981 5 ай бұрын
I don't like the new songs either. Pretty much takes one out of the moment, especially if you were used to hearing the originals. Strangely enough after the music change the series ran on Retro Television Network and Eve of Destruction was intact! I thought maybe the episode had been returned to it's original form after all the uproar. That wasn't the case since every broadcast I've seen after the series left RTN are the mucked up music versions. Was it an accident RTN was given a copy of OS with original music, or done on purpose? We probably will never know.

Shouldn't "Pam Davidson" be inside a white box?
@tgaharchives1981
@tgaharchives1981 5 ай бұрын
No white box for Davidson, and not when it was changed to Hinkley either. Only one with the box was Culp's Maxwell credit. I would love to read the contract stating that the "Bill Maxwell" name credit was to be in a box. :) Sadly the shows credits are monkeyed up pretty bad now and we will never seen them officially returned to the way they first ran on ABC. That might be a project someday to post a series of videos on the Archives website documenting the credit changes.
