Your essay was fascinating! I had never considered that the producers might be aiming for something like this. Also I for sure agree with you that many of the moments in these clips just feel too organic/ too short + glossed-over to be scripted

"Loving" severely damaged...almost destroyed....Hamlin's career. The audiences/society weren't ready I guess. If the film were made today, he'd be much more widely celebrated.

My ESL English teacher recommended I watch QI to "better understand British culture" but I never quite had the time for it. You just made me realise what she was likely trying to accomplish because that woman definitely knew I was queer lol (tbf I make zero attempts at hiding it)

Great video and wonderful essay! I must say that I admire the degree of separation with which you consider the people and their on-screen characters (I feel there's a temptation to buy into what they're selling if you find it appealing, and by god I do). And your takes on the reasons for and evolution of their dynamic are brilliant! Also, your essay is funny and you did make me google a couple words lol. Some of it was, admittedly, me being rusty with any sort of academic reading in English, tongue-in-cheek as it was, but I can honestly say I don't remember ever encountering the word 'abecedarian' out in the wild. I assume you used it in the meaning of 'rudimentary; elementary' lol

@@rosamaintz4449 thank you! hmm thats a big question. Since I don’t know your work I would say that the key three things that have helped me gain a better understanding of how to convey meaning are to use active voice as much as possible, close your eyes every once in a while and try to explain to yourself what your last paragraph was saying, and to be passionate about you are writing about:)

Absolutely stellar essay! Such an indepth analysis of their on-screen repartee and tension. The video was so entertaining and I agree with the majority of commenters that damn, Alan davies became so alluring as I went through it. The comparisons of brat/brat tamer dynamic is also so intriguing. Honestly, a great video and amazing essay. I fell in love with both your editing style and writing style. Major kudos to you!!

Thank you for this compilation of Organic fagg•try, just as nature intended. (yt censors lol) The contents of the following comment would usually be too personal for me to share on such a platform but I doubt it will reach many except for like minds. I grew up watching QI in my tween and teenage years, and this video/essay combo has allowed me to pinpoint times in my young life where I thought I was attracted to intelligence, but was actually reacting to the funny men on TV pantomiming gay power dynamics I couldn’t yet, at the time, fathom. Also I would cry if you put your essay on ao3 or something and tag it with the appropriate key phrases. More people would benefit from it, I feel.
