Possible that either you didn't enable serial access in the settings, that there's a bug in the script or username/password combo, or that perhaps there's an operating system issue? If you aren't worried about anything on the VM it might be easier to delete and recreate it (you'd lose any data on it that way though, but if it's a fresh one then not a huge deal IMO)

Thanks for this. in my case i mistakenly deleted my default service account and when i try accessing my SSH i get IAM permissions Test skipped. service account does not exist. anyway you can help?

yo bro, idk if youre still there, but man, im using a VM with a ubuntu shape, I did the same thing as you but it wont let me type the password, and i get some issues like failed to start login service or no space left on device, i dont know what to do

No space left on device sounds like a hard drive issue, or perhaps a partition got filled up. Is there anything critical on the VM? Might be one of those times where it's easier to just create a new one...

On the left side the ping was to .2 which was the server it was running on 😁 It should have gone to .3

Also, in Vim the ":set paste" option is useful when you're trying to paste into a terminal 😉

I assume that if you log in via ssh separately from the Cloud Shell altogether, those quotas don't apply to you...

@@erikfredericks Maybe a better phrasing of my question: If you connect directly via ssh from a client such as PuTTY, the quotas don't apply to you as they would if you used the web-based VM console, correct?

I think I finally sorted through my confusion... when you're using Cloud Shell you're getting a temporary disposable VM, not connecting to an existing VM. The disposable VM is just for your convenience for running gcloud and other related commands. And that's probably why a quota is imposed: So that you don't try running real workloads in what's supposed to be just a temporary place to run some commands interactively.

In the video you see mention of data sizes listed as "gibibyte" or "tebibyte". Technically "gigabyte" and "terabyte" are SI compliant, meaning they are powers of 10 like the metric system, so those are 1,000,000,000 (billion) bytes and 1,000,000,000,000 (trillion) bytes respectively. But historically computing has used units as powers of 2, so 1 KB was 1,024 bytes, and it scaled up from there. So these were renamed to "gibibyte" as 1,073,741,824 bytes and "tebibyte" as 1,099,511,627,776 bytes. In short, "gibibyte" and "tebibyte" are just "gigabyte" and "terabyte" for legalists. 😉

It's always the accounts with small subscribers that usually have the solutions to problems. Thank you Erik. Solved a problem of over 2 months. I just used to create a new virtual machine.

CTRL + L works in _most_ terminal sessions to clear the screen. If you're ever stuck and you can't type clear or cls, try CTRL + L. Or just mash it to quickly hide your shame after you make a mistake haha.
