Another map making tool you may like is Azgaar's fantasy map generator. It creates world maps and auto generates city/town maps for every location using Watabous generators and creates permalinks. It also allows for some really cool control over climate, geography, and population. Azgaar has a fan made module for foundry to import maps

figured it out! All i had to do was read the wiki, durp. Add a new effect, select ATL.light.animation, override, and type "{type: "torch", speed: 2, intensity: 2}" (without quotes outside brackets) and you're done.

Unfortunately, you can't change the emission degree of the light. So, you can't make a flashlight or other light source. I was really looking for something that allows control of the angle of the light. If anyone knows of one, please let me know. Thank you.

If you're using the D&D system, there's a few ways to do that - DAE mod can allow you to add effects/scripts to an item. Or clone one of Gambits' (GPS) Bullseye Lanterns and change to suit your needs - they work perfectly. Outside of D&D, not sure what's available, but I suspect there are solutions.

I'd already managed to make some macro weapon effects(with sound too), thankfully some of the effects even manage to fit into Cyberpunk2020. This helped a lot. I made a macro that fires a rocket and thanks to your werewolf example, it now results in an explosion after it hits, then knowing how to do that, it leaves a fire behind. There are some other things I want to do, maybe the stuff at the end could help me out. But the fire fights really feel much better now.

great video! fwiw, you have always needed to adjust the players HP on the character sheet due to the limitations of the dndbeyond character sheet and how abovevtt can not manipulate the sheet from the token (Same with character conditions). players should be managing their own HP anyway :) To "target", double click, but nothing is done "Automatically". You can just select the monster token and then click the damage button on the game log to apply damage to monsters quickly, though. in the settings tab, there are way more options if you click the "change default token options"

I'm glad that official D&D content in foundry is being implemented so well. I own no books in D&D Beyond and was about to buy the 2014 PHB just before they announced that Foundry would be getting official content, so I decided to wait on it. I feel that getting it on Foundry is a massive win, especially with some mods that can handle creating chacaracters, which is what Beyond does better so far. Just hoping that they launch previous books in Foundry as well. As always, great video! I'll probably get the new books in Foundry, but I'm mid campaign right now and changing everything is too much trouble, I'm gonna wait to update do 4.x, maybe in the future.

Got this for Foundry, not because I am using the rules of 2024 but wanted the Bastions in and some of the items and such. It's very easy to integrate and filter what you want and don't. It's a good module and version to have for Foundry, and a lot cheaper than the physical book.

After using "Set Terrain" at 12:49, in the behavior part you go to the drop down and choose difficult terrain. Everything worked until that for me, but my drop-down is empty for some reason? Any ideas why? (I am using pf2e instead of DnD)

I bought the special edition covers versions of the physical books, the dndbeyond versions- and I will be getting the foundry ones. Why? Well, I like the physical books for the collection, I use D&D beyond all the time and I still think its the better way to make characters, and Im going to buy them on Foundry too because I want to support FVTT and have the content available in FVTT with less importing XD - Is it expensive? Not really, split up over time its not really that bad and im going to get a ton of use out of them.

Same - I like the physical copies to actually read, but the digital ones are useful for referencing as part of the VTT environment. I agree that DnDBeyond is a much nicer way to make a new character, especially for new players, but now we have a PHB in Foundry, I suspect I'll move away from DDB and the Importer. Maybe to make a new character, but then probably just re-build in Foundry rather than importing. Will have to see how it goes. Regarding expense, I tend to justify spending by looking at a cost-per-hour of fun. 2 trips to the Cinema for 4 hours of entertainment, or a PHB for 100s of hours? Value for money is extremely high.

Great Job sir as always. I have moved forward to the 2024 4.1.1 build on my foundry server it is great to have the books built for foundry. I am missing a lot of my mods only down side, but base foundry is starting to have some of those features built in.

Not stupid at all. There's 2 ways you can do this: 1 - Create an image with the button writing on, and use that as the Tile Image on the button. 2 - (which I've used) is just like you say. A button tile, but also a text "drawing" with words on. Simple and does the job.

There is a button in the left hand menu which allows you to re-hide tiles. Basically un-does the reveal. Sorry - should have mentioned that in the actual video

Hello Clay, I hope you are well! I am here to bother you with another question. Ive been tinkering with Foundry, setting up V12. However, Ive run into a few weird problems and Im hoping you can help me or can point me to where I can find help: I use automatic rerolling of initiative in combat. So each round, different initiative. I like that it makes combat extra unpredictable and chaotic. So in MidiQoL Ive checked reroll initiative each round. So far so good and this always worked like a charm in V11 but now I just cannot get it to work. When I end the round and begin a new one, it keeps the same initiative. And this makes it really weird: when one of my players does the same, it DOES reroll initiative. He does the same as I am doing: he just cycles through the combatants (in both carroussel and the combat encounter tab) but when he gets to the end of the round, initiative is rerolled but when I (and one of my other players) does it, nothing happens. They are all logged in to my server. We are all set to GM (it is a small testing team). We all use the same MidiQoL settings (I take it). To make it extra, extra weird: when the player that has the rerolls working, logs in to the account of the player who doesn't have the rerolls working, for him the rerolls are now working! This player is just logging into my server, so there are no local setting he's using. Do you have any explanation for this because we are going crazy! :) Also, when we roll the first initiative, it rolls like 2 or 3 dice per combatant per initiative. This has always been like that but Ive never figured out why it does that. Any idea why that is happening? I've gone through all the settings and I just cannot find what we are doing wrong. Hey Mike! Nice to hear from you. Hope you're all good. I'm wondering if this is caused by having multiple GMs, so Foundry gets confused? Personally I don't use this feature because it can seriously mess up automation effects time - "lasts until your next turn" because very random, but not necessarily bad, just not rules-as-written. Do you use Combat Carousel or something? That has a button for "Roll All" that you could manually use at the start of each round, which might give you the same result, but without the weirdness?

I love AboveVTT because how simple and easy to use it is, it does just about everything you'd need it to. A bit annoying you have to manually do damage and healing for the player characters, but thats not a deal breaker. My only complaint about it (and for most VTTs I guess) is its not very mobile friendly. If D&D Beyond manages to add all the same functionality as this AND have it work right on their mobile app, there really won't be a reason to use AboveVTT anymore

AboveBTT seems a good option for those not keen into automations and such. My problem with it is actually with DnDBeyond and the whole month subscription to share content with players. But still, definetely a great option for those looking into simple and quick play. Great video!

Alternatively, you can use make the characters as the DM, and then assign them to the players. So they don't actually need to access any resource - no sharing content needed. Of course, you'd need access to the books yourself, unless the really basic SRD is enough to get you going.

When I made these videos, the "Encounters" part of DDB were not working, and didn't function with the VTT in a useful way. But you're right, I didn't do a "here's how combat works". I can do one of those in the next couple of days.

Hi. Firstly, you can not import maps from your desktop - very annoying. I uploaded my maps to google drive, and then linked from there. Secondly, in D&DBeyond, create a campaign and ensure you invite your players with their characters. When you kick-off the VTT do it from that campaign (Join as DM), and have your player join from there too.

Thanks again for the module. I'm reading over the WTC adventure in preparation. I think I may have found 2 bugs when playing with it, 1/ When logged in as a user on Svalich Road the player can't see the Gates or Corpse when the DM displays them. 2/On Crossroads Horseman the button images can't be found (!) and the player can see them to.I'm on ver. 0.2.3

Is it possible to have the buttons and levers highlight for the players when they hover their mouse over them? The way doors and journal entries do. This would be very helpful for my players as they don't know what they can click on sometimes. Thank you :)

Yes you can. Have the On Hover as a trigger. Then use the Landing tags in the Actions section to tell it what to do when they hover over it - either switch the image to a more highlighted version, or better might be to play a twinkly animation in the tile to make it really clear something is there. hey there, loving the work so far! I tried running the module and it worked great! sorry if this has been asked before, but in some scenes, there seem to be some assets that don't load at all? they only show up as white triangles with exclamation points in the middle. is there any way to fix those? I'm using foundry v3.3.1 if that helps (since its the only version compatible with plutonium currently)

It'll be an error on my end - not referenced the image correctly. If you can let me know which ones are broken, I can ensure they get fixed in the next release. If it's the Landing Page ones in the item frames, the idea is that you replace them with pictures/icons for your own players.

@@clay_golem hey there! here are specifically the ones I encountered: svalich road - missing image for the "through the gates" button death house dungeons - missing image for the button for strahd's letter b5c blood of the vine tavern - not showing the actors and tokens for some characters (silas, quarethon, morgan, olwen) c12b blue water inn - the interior region doesnt properly align with the interior of the inn c4 tser pool - missing actor for ireena c5 crossroads horseman - missing images for the three buttons on the side d1 st. andral's church - missing images for the two large trees outside the church d3 arasek stockyard - a LOT of missing images. 1 cart, 4 wagons, 1 wagon cover, 1 boat, 1 wolf trophy, the warehouse, and 4 'blank cards' inside the warehouse d6a the invitation - same issue as c12b d6b - missing images for 13 smoke plumes e3 burgomaster's mansion - missing image for the chandelier, no token images for claw and fang e4 lake zarovich - szoldar-and-yevgeni-hunting-hut.webp missing e6 lake baratok - elevator token missing e6b tower door - all 8 rune images missing e8 blue water inn - same issue as c12b and d6a e8c arasek stockyard - same issue as d3 **some buttons also dont seem to be working on some scenes i just want to say that i only look at the tile image reference to assume what images are missing, so I might be wrong on naming some of these. but these are just the issues I saw at a glance. i might have missed a few as I've personally not used these yet. hope it helps!!

I have no been through a fixed all of these. Thank you SO much for taking the time to report them all. My end it can still find the "old" file location so I can't see those missing images, and I clearly missed moving the references to them - and then cloned the broken Arasek Stockyard! I'll do a few other minor changes and additions and then get an update patch out this week.

Just started to use your CoS module, I'm guessing you moved away from using levels in this way? (Seems like Death House is all in one scene). What do you recommend as the best way of moving between levels, literally just moving the tokens across to each quadrant of the map? Edit: Apologies, I can see the tokens can teleport on the stairs, this is incredible, wasn't aware of this functionality!

Just came to answer this and I see you've spotted the Regions teleporters :) The only reason I stopped using Levels for CoS is to reduce the number of Mods required- fewer mods, fewer potential issues with updates and mod versions. As you're using my CoS adventure pack, you should find all the scenes have been converted from Levels now, and they will all have teleporters for Stairs and ladders. But please let me know if you spot anything that doesn't work, or missing an image, and I'll fix them ASAP.

Hey Claygolem, I'm looking for a way to see people on and under a cliff and be able to attack them with ranged combat without the players being able to just run up the cliff. I can't do that with walls. Either the players can climb over the walls or the attack is blocked. Can this be adjusted with Terrain Mapper?

Hmmm.... interesting problem. The only way I can see right now is using Monk's Active Tile Triggers. Place a tile at the point you want to block. Using the Move action so that when a token enters or moves in the tile, it moves them back to the point at the bottom of the cliff. Only problem is that you can only define 1 destination to move to, and not "move 1 square south" which would be perfect. So if you've got a long cliff, you'd want a lot of tiles doing this, all along the cliff.

The only one I am aware of that is designed specifically for this is the Potion Crafting & Gathering. So if you choose to use this, you may need to spend a fair bit of time setting up additional items.

What module is the "DIME" you are referring to?

It's part of DAE - Dynamic Effects using Active Effects. The DIME part is for creating Dynamic Item Macro Effects - basically, use an item and it runs the macro, which could be pretty much anything you want, as long as you know how to write the macro. Commonly used to applying sound, visual and status effects. E.g. Flaming Sword, when it hits, runs a macro that adds a fire animation to the target, gives them a "burning" status, etc. etc.

I was very happy to discover your channel, as I haven't found many showing the construction of an adventure/campaign in Foundry as well as yours. That said, I do have some remarks, intended to give new viewers some extra tips. Foundry is a computer program and as such based on mathematics. So use some when designing your adventures. To get an idea of grid size and image magnification, count the number of grid squares in the image and divide the amount of pixels in the image to get a starting point for resizing your scene images. If you're going to add lights to a scene, start from darkness and deactivate global illumination. Quick walls with few details will always disappoint in the end, put in the effort from the start. This only goes for walls definining natural elements, of course, walls for buildings and such can be kept simple. Layer sounds and lights for more realism, as computing power is plenty nowadays and it adds a lot to realism while for you it's mostly copy and paste.

All true, but also bear in mind this was very early in my Foundry experience too, and was purposefully done to show my learning journey to help others. We're much "better" now, although I still do rough walls if I'm doing them in a video, as no one wants to watch an hour of putting walls down - I tidy up after ;)

Question at 2:45 - There was no PHB2014 for foundry, this is the first official implementation of the core books specifically for Foundry. Prior you had to use a DND Beyond Importer to kinda bring what you brought there into Foundry. That goes for the other books, DMG, MM, etc. That is what makes this very exciting, its the first time.
