At first listen, I hear this as a pretty poor performance. But, after further reflection, in a way it begins makes sense. Perhaps I'm overthinking it, but playing this song in and out of tune guitar with a few broken strings can be interpreted as metaphor for the broken out of balance American dream. I have always love the studio version, but in a way this performance is art in its honesty. Or maybe he was just drunk, who knows..
