the consistency of this album is a big part of what's kept me hooked. i can put on any track and expect the same sort of feel, yet they're all unique enough that i don't get bored. this album is almost a 10 for me, so it was cool to hear your perspective!

Hey Tatihn, I’ve been watching here and there, depending on the album, and I wanted to know whether or not you’d be down to review one of our albums? Our band Odd Breed put out a multi-genre album back in January called No Brakes On Red and it would be really cool to see a reaction for it. It’s on all platforms, so it should be easy to access. If so, we’ll react to it and shout you out (not that we have a crazy reach, but maybe like a “small channel helps small channel” kind of deal)?

Best drums I've heard on a shoegaze album by far, much better than on any other IMO, plus the switching between the singers is almost what makes this album so good. So what it sounds samesy, if you are getting bored by the songs dont listen to it again and listen to something else. This band is redefining the pacing and techniques in song structure in shoegaze.

It's good but idk, I don't think it's as good as God's Country. I hugely disagree with your assessment post your expectations. This album actually felt way less intense to me, way less emotionally intense and in terms of like "artsy" the actual compositions feel way simpler on here, they kind of bored me a little. Like nothing even vaguely comes close to a grimace smoking weed on here. For an album with an obvious Harvey Milk reference, (imo the best sludge/doom band ever) I was really hoping that they were gonna get even more fucked up and weird and long winded with their songs compositionally. This is like, across the board, their most simple and accessible release imo. Not an offensive release but feels like a step backwards. That being said, Masc is song of the year for me. Outside of that I'll take New World, Shame, Tape, I Am Dog Now and really that's about it. I gotta dive deeper into the lyrics but from what I picked up, it doesn't feel nearly as intense lyrically either. Like come on, the last album had a song that literally started off with him screaming "open the fucking cash register before I shoot everybody in here" He sounds like an insane person on God's Country, he sounds like a vocalist in a band on this album
@TatihnАй бұрын
you’ve got some fair points, this album definitely feels less intense on the outset but I think it’s because the subject matter has been a lot more honed in. Milk of human kindness is about the trauma of a horrific burning and it really comes through. I also think the accessibility of the instrumentation comes from two things: the honing of their writing and the influence of their touring, especially with all of the hardcore festivals they did. That said I can see your point and why it would be less a draw given the kinda smoother sound, but I think it’s a nice turn and helps Raygun’s performance come through
@onionheadguy7094Ай бұрын
I personally think that this was a good direction to go in. I think that gods country is a masterpiece, and the intense microscopic depictions of various horrors was really distilled into it's purest form. So to go in a different direction and have songs with a wider scope is a good idea. I think trying to top songs like Grimace would be too forced, as the concept of the song (having a disassociation episode in a song) can only work once. I can see where you're coming from though.
@almac5446Ай бұрын
I think the entire album is more of a horror movie than and you're following a character who is the cult leader and a murderer in a small town
@TatihnАй бұрын
it definitely has a through line but I think so of the songs like masc and new world are more singular experiences, most the tracks definitely follow one plot line though

Yeah they use discordant melodies on the guitar that are so noisey and then you have the drums and bass just smashing down an absolute knuckledragging groove, it really is the sauce that makes this band stand out from so many others.

I feel the album was fine but not their best. 2 of the bands shortest tracks ever make it feel like it’s only 8 songs and already heard the 3 singles so felt like I got 5 new tracks. Good take on the lack of mosh, I didn’t get any breakdowns that blew me away like on the first 2 LPs. I don’t feel like there are enough songs on it that would make me go back to this record in particular.
@Tatihn6 ай бұрын
yeah it definitely felt like by the time it dropped there wasn’t a lot of meat to it, and thank you I thought it was a niche point to make but one worth making for a hardcore album, I like it for a bit of background noise, might put it on my playlist but that’s about the strongest feelings I have on it

personally i absolutely loved it, it’s probably aoty for me so far, and knocked loose is one of my absolute favorite bands, but i totally see where you’re coming from with a lot of your points, very good video. also don’t feel like you need to prove yourself or your “hxc credibility” lol, even if you were a tiktok fan, or someone who wasn’t really into hardcore, your opinion would be just as valid regardless, everybody has a different taste in music and nobody gets to tell you that yours is wrong

Actually cause I really do wanna dissuade this. I got one of the guys in mindforce to record a lil video just saying hi for a friend of mine who couldn’t make the show, got him a shirt too cuz he was supposed to come but had a work meeting that he literally couldn’t get out of. One of my favorite homies and he got me into them and the hardcore scene. I work doors for my friends who host when they’re short bodied and even do a lil security to make sure everyone’s done doors and paid. I’ve got a lot of homies in bands that are popping off out here and I try and do what I can for them whether it’s merch or just showing up. I’m sorry if it came off poser like, but that’s just how I talk about music, in a more analytical way. I think KL is all about community too, I just think this strayed from the sound I wanted for a hxc album. If you’re really interested in my hxc viability then go check my gram, it’s linked somewhere on my page. Real bay shit for life tho

Now, hardcore isn't my FAVORITE genre, I love it, but I do personally won't more from music, or I should say different things.
