At the 26 minute mark, the expression on Drey's face when he is pulling his kite stake is a familiar one. I've convinced myself that setting a stake is never wasted effort. Sometimes it helps hold your kite, but it always helps when trying to find your handles. 😁

Nice video Brett. I use pretty much the same technique to build my kites. Starting on a 1:1 ACAD Dwg. But how do you prevent the double sided tape from sticking to your sewing machine needle while stitching?? Maybe you will share your secret about this topic 🤔
@kitebum
@kitebum 27 күн бұрын
@EddyBorkelmans specifically the tape from Kites and Fun Things sews the best for me. If you sew at a decent pace you can get through an entire kite and only pick off the smallest glue ball. Currently I build with 1/8" tape and that doesn't produce any sticky glue balls

@@kitebum TNX I'll try to find out if tape like this is available in a kitestore here in Europa. Until now I use papertape that I take off the Icarex while sewing. It works but takes a lot of time🤷‍♂️

Shouldn't Brett, a UL kite, be fully enclosed, rather than having the mesh underneath the tip dacron?
@kitebum
@kitebum 6 ай бұрын
Not necessarily. However, if you want it to fly well in reverse, you want the mesh 😉

Why a djinn instead of a revolution xx?
@kitebum
@kitebum 9 ай бұрын
Oh man. This could get long 🤣 Rev wants to be everyone's first quad kite. That's fine but they also build the kites for the folks that don't know any better. Their leading edge mesh completely separates from the sail in less than 30 hours of flight time. The bridle has less connections so on a rev you don't have the feel of the sail transferred to your hands. It's a more dead flight feel also because revs are flat sails. They don't shape very nice to capture the wind. With a flat piece of kite you're really just guiding it around the sky. The Djinn has shape in the sail along with more bridle connection points that are also very specifically shaping the sail to capture WAY more pressure for forward drive and bleed the wind smoother so there is zero vibration at the handle. The Djinn is built and designed by flyers, not business people. It's truly the Ferrari of quad kites. Masterfully crafted with no stone left unturned. The cut out on the outer trailing edge allows faster, more precise reverse flying. NO exposed knots for your line to snag and cause the dreaded walk of shame. It is a flyers kite ✊🏽

@@kitebum In short, things simply evolve... I've never tested either one, I make my own based on the Oskusa model, in icarex. I'm Brazilian, it's impossible to buy a djinn here, I have to settle for buying the fabric and making my own, maybe I'll make a model based on the djinn and create my own bridle with more stitches on the sail and I'll evolve too...
