Ever thought about turning to tighter fit, and using temperature, put outer in oven to expand, inner in fridge to shrink, depending on application this parts is used, would not have to weld. Quick search to remember numbers "A typical metal, like steel, will expand by a very small percentage when heated, usually around 0.006% to 0.007% per 100 degrees Fahrenheit"

Excellent fabbing 👍, how easily will you be able to repair/replace the bottle jack? would a short stroke ram have been better? I like your design and plain to do something similar only use a hydraulic ram and an old log splitter part's . BTW was that a 20 ton jack?

Witam.
@madeingarage704016 күн бұрын

Really cool. Only comment would be to add an inverse arrow to the angle gauge so you can see the angle once the marker is covered by the stock. Nice vid👍 was hoping to make one myself but definitely need a lathe first it seems to do it this way atleast

Great job but I probably would have welded some angle. And bolted the top frame in rather than fully weld it. Or at least have some sort of a bearing cover so I could replace them easily if needed.

Great job. Just a couple of ideas as I have similar press, you can turn the pump piston around 180 degrees and then the pump handle will be on the same side as the release valve and still pump on the down stroke. It just requires a little bit of modification. Mine has a second fill hole added higher up on the body of the cylinder now that it is upside down otherwise you can’t top up the oil. Now that the jack is upside down the piston pump seal, which now always has fluid trying to get past it, tends to leak after a while. I machined a second groove in the piston and fitted a second “O” ring and this really helped. Mines 30 years old and still works fine. Two questions please, why didn’t you weld the top frame instead of bolts? And are you related to Made in Poland? I just found your email so I can send you a photo of my pump piston that has been turned around. Cheers mate, Stuart 👍
@madeingarage704018 күн бұрын
Hello. I am not related to Made in Poland but we are in touch. As for the upper frame, I decided it would be better this way. In the presses sold, it is also screwed together.

Simple, effective, gets the job done. Great job. A few pointers: flux core is great to weld with, it gets great penetration. Keep practicing your consistency, the weld beads look like they are coming along. When you design a system like this the reaction forces get pretty large, try different designs when weldments carry the entire load. Instead of simple square weldments design parts that have rounded features at the bottom to increase the length of the weld and avoid stress concentration points like sharp corners. You can also utilize designs that rely on mechanical support (fasters and physical stops) to carry part of the load opposed to just the weld. You're doing good work. Keep at it.
