Soldier was a hard core committed patriot - ruthless in the cause of doing what was right. Everyone else was soft, self-centered, and inadequate. Son with better values than Mother. Mother had no business being a soldier’s wife - although admittedly most women cannot handle the commitment that role requires. Cheating “friend” was despicable in all respects and deserved the dismal fate he got. Good story. Glad the son finally got the Dad, his one decent parent - I would bet the son will be a future West Pointer.

There are many conflicts and hot spots around the world today where one could get stuck on contract for up to 3 years. Thnx for support.

I was in the military, combat arms, M1 tanks for 12 years. When your deployed in a combat theater normally after 12 months you go back stateside. Away 3 years???? Your right, that's very questionable. Whoever wrote this story...probably a formal soldier with no combat experience.
