I know you said this isn't really a instructional video, but for someone like me that has never worked on anything I find it very educational. Im sitting here in my PJs on Christmas morning watch Rusty Wrench Restoration video 😂😂 Merry Christmas Steve! I hope the new year will soon bring you you a smooth running diesel Deere soon.😊

Good call , sometimes the most basic thing is i can fix it !! then , why did i touch it ! see you soon on the next video .
@RustyWrenchRestorations5 күн бұрын
@chrisgreig5628 yep... I was going to attempt it... but sometimes we have to know our limits. I've learned that sometimes paying someone to do something is simply buying MY TIME BACK.... and believe me... time is precious! Plus I can start tearing into the skidsteer while the pump is gone!
@fredblase56085 күн бұрын
No line on the left rotating wheel means you are on number one cylinder exhaust stroke, you'll have to turn the motor one more turn to get the two lines to come together. The "dirt" that came out of the timing window is most likley part of the govenor weight retaning ring, a plastic componet that deteroates with time. It plugs up the return line fitting chocking off the injection pump. The ring on the right moves up and down a small distance that is the hydrolic timing advance. I understand that a replacment weight retaner assembly is avalable that eliminates that problem, althow just replacing the plastic ring works for some time. A window is avalable to set the timing it mounts where the cover goes and has lines that reprecent degrees of timing while the motor is runnig a various speeds. Sorry about the spelling and grammer retired diesel mechanic here.
@RustyWrenchRestorations5 күн бұрын
Yes sir... all great info and true to a "T". I saw some videos about the plastic flyweight rubber /plastic peice coming apart. They have an updated one with it welded together or replace with another plastic ring. I've heard of the clear plastic windows... but supposedly they are hard to find now a days apparently. I plan on pulling the injection pump off this weekend and sending it to a good reputable shop I know that specializes in these stanadyne pumps. I think its the safest bet and worth paying a pro. Thank you for the comment.... I can tell you've rebuilt a few in your your time and are very knowledgeable. Might need your oversight on this tractor in the future! Yep... I was 180 degrees out the first time. Knew it was odd to not see the line at all.... now I know that is #1 exhaust... tha know you!

Any thoughts on checking the compression? I wonder if the hard starts could be a result of low compression?
@RustyWrenchRestorations8 күн бұрын
@keithobrien8977 anything is possible... but i think the injection pump not properly metering fuel is the cause for the somewhat hard starts and rough idle / running. I do need to get a compression tester..... good call!

Oh no😢😢 I'm very limited to diesel engines so I don't think i can offer a lot of advice. I wonder if anyone has ever messed with the timing on the injector pump?
@RustyWrenchRestorations15 күн бұрын
@Jason1Pa could be timing. Here's where I'm at. 1) going to replace lift pump. 99% sure it's NOT that, but... cheap insurance that the injection pump is being provided good fuel pressure. 2) im going to pulll the head. I want to look at cylinder walls, valves, and head gasket. Again.. I'll get lots of info and answers for a fairly cheap price. 3) At that point, the injection pump will need to come off, and I can verify if it's timed properly. If it is.... then I need to get it rebuilt or replaced. Not cheap either way... but worth the investment! Stay tuned!
@Jason1Pa15 күн бұрын
@RustyWrenchRestorations Sounds like a good plan! I was even thinking a valve issue as well, but I was just trying to think of something more simple first. Any idea who you'll send the pump to? There are a few very reputable shops out there from what i heard
@RustyWrenchRestorations15 күн бұрын
I'm going to see if I get a warm and fuzzy from someone local... if not... yeah it will get sent out to a place that knows that specific pump. Looks to be about $700 to rebuild... or $1200 for a new one.

Sweet! I actually have two kind of long term tractor projects. One is a JD 40c as I've mentioned, and the other is a Ford 3400. One from my grandpa and then my dad, and the other from my wife's grandpa. The Ford 3400 is industrial-ish like this one and has a 3 cylinder diesel, so I imagine there is a fair amount of overlap concept-wise between the 3400 and this JD 300.5 😆
@RustyWrenchRestorations16 күн бұрын
