It’s a crowd favourite I think. Often this is my first technique in a class to get everyone warmed up and going.

There is so litt;e valuable content on kamae in aikido. Finally, something useful - thank-you.

I'm not sure why the Yoshinkan Kamae has one heel lined up with the toes when other styles line both heels on the same line.

They don't though, most styles have the front heel aligned with the instep of the rear foot

In the video she is doing a check to the chest /sternum area. We practice to that area so we can do it safely with speed and moderate power . If really attacked we do that to the throat. The main idea is that we go forward, taking the initiative back from the attacker.

Cool Video... It gives a good and varied account of Aikido and show the great vibe that the Marrickville Aikido Yoshinkai Dojo has.

Although I practice in the Aikikai style, and Seishiro Endo is the epitome of how I want to practice aikido, I really like this man's style; it's very reminiscent, to me, of Gozo Shioda. Respect.

Kihon or basic movements / techniques are designed to guide us and strengthen. The strengthening comes through the lower /deeper postures you noted. In fast & dynamic application such as in Joe Sensei's demonstration a more natural posture is taken.

This was a fantastic demonstration by Thambu Sensei. I note that Sensei's footwork and hip displacement seem more compact and perhaps "natural" than my limited experience of Yoshinkan kihon waza. Is this a natural progession, why is kihon so wide and deep?

Awesome! This is precisely how Parker Shihan teaches it as well and how we here at Seikeikan perform this movement. Particularly, the hand movement. Thanks for sharing.
