I agree. However, I think that the strong and firm German chants make it more intimidating and memorable!

Yes. He was Marschall August von Mackensen. He believed in the restoration of the German monarchy and rejected the Republic.

This song’s not actually from WW1 and is a rather new song used by the Bundeswehr (modern German military). The actual predecessor to the Teufelslied is called "Lied der Legion Condor" from the Spanish civil war
