It’s nice to see Rocky reviving with the current generation. A lot of kids now are looking for guidance and people who care- real and genuine emotion for mentor figures. I think as a kid growing up in the 80s you just assumed it was normal to have a Myagi or a Micky. I hope this generation gets more of this, because they crave and they deserve it.

I love how he runs after em and at first Mickey gets a little scared but then he realizes Rocky is coming in good faith. And we’ll never know what was said and that’s just perfect.

My Granddad lived in an old building "manager" of a flea bag residence hotel...Bar Fly style...he had a window at his back down to the street on the 2nd story....he had a tilted mirror in front of him to see who was walking up the stairs. The bathroom was down the hall and you had to yank a chain to flush the gravity feed toilet tank. I see my granddad in Burgess Meredith and my dad in Rocky...they didn't like each other. We would only visit on Christmas day...roach infested cases of Coors beer stacked on the floor....vodka bottles all over. I could feel the hate and rage even as a little kid. This scene captures that...the rage and fear of Rocky failing in his big moment. The fear of Mick of dying with nothing and clinging to the coattails of Rocky for the one big fight. The screaming that can be heard with the punching of walls and doors....it send shivers down my spine being subjected to alcoholic parent and grandparent. This scene is no joke and one of my all time favorites in cinema.

Mick saw the potential in Rocky and was disappointed in him because he saw so much of himself in Rocky and felt that Rocky was wasting his talent. Rocky on his part had a big enough heart to accept Mickey as his trainer and his mentor, because he realized that deep down inside, Mickey cared for him and wanted to see him succeed. Their Relationship was so well done that when Mickey died in Rocky 3, you cried hard.

What a screenplay. The layers operating here are remarkable. From Rocky being utterly contemptuous to Mickey's suddenly chummy presence in his shamefully shitty apartment, leading to the subtlety of Rocky not just kicking him out, but avoiding him in his own home. To Micky knowing that he can legitimately help this guy with his wealth of experience in the fight game. To protect him from the vultures and the predators that will appear in the title picture. Which leads to Micky's pathetic attempt to build a 5-minute rapport with a fighter who wasted his potential and whom he's barely spoken to in the last 10 years. Rocky being naturally resentful of this, but then his remarkable wisdom shines through and he realizes that he truly needs what Micky offers. Leading to the touching visual story-telling at the end. Great, great stuff.

Thing I always loved: I’m pretty sure this is the only time you see Rocky truly mad outside of the ring, in all the films! Only time we see this emotional side of this amazing character
