Hi, how long ago were the late payments? That's the real concern for lenderse today. It's a good thing that your income and downpayment are on point. What lenders look for today: Stability Consistency Credit Scores Savings Low Debt-to-Income Ratios As long as the late payments were over 12-24mths (varies per lender) you are good to go.

@@letslearnmore24 I would wait until you reach 12mths and then speak with a loan officer. Have a good story ready as to why you were late and what you have done to ensure it doesn't happen again.

This was amazing. i'm on a timeshare that my ex owns, and i was added, not sure why or how. but now it's on my credit 120 days late and i'm a joint owner smh, but by the time i'm ready to process the pre-approval, i will have no death. this will be in 6 months this was very helpful.

I paid in full for my timeshare at time of purchase, no loan. I have not paid any "fees" in years and just got a letter of foreclosure. If I let them foreclose am I no longer responsible for any fees from that point on? I never used it and it was bought out by another company so I actually do not plan on paying the fees I have at this time. Can I get in trouble and can my credit be effected if I did not borrow any money in the first place? At this time I have perfect credit and have for many years, never had bad credit.

I have had great credit for years and my spouse and i bought a house in my name because adding him would raise the interest rate. Well now we are divorced, and I have spent 8 months trying to get him out of the house. He wont leave!!! Ive been unqble to keep up with both payments (the house and my rent where I'm currently living), and ive now fallen behind. My credit us dropping monthly 😭 i now have poor credit

I co-signed for my son's friend to purchase a vehicle. He stopped paying the bill in February and now there is write-off on the loan. He wanted to resume paying so now,I will call the bank to see if he is paying the debt again. If he still isn't paying, I will have the bank seize the vehicle so they don't put a lien on my home

Nowadays, there are many online courses that guide consumers to legally cancel their timeshares without paying anyone. My friends cancelled just by taking a course. Do a Google search.

Is this true or not? “Under the law in some states, re-aging can occur if the debtor acknowledges to the creditor or debt collector that they owe the debt or if they make even a partial repayment on it. When that happens, the Federal Trade Commission notes, the statute of limitations resets and "the collector might be able to sue you to collect the full amount of the debt, which may include extra interest and fees."

Yes. If you acknowledge the debt, the statute of limitations can restart. In over 40 states, acknowledgment must be in writing.

Hi how are you? I know this is 4yrs old but is this still accurate? I made the mistake of getting a timeshare then further realizing that I was trapped in a lie. Needless to say I stopped paying about 3 months ago and it’s now on my credit😢. A credit that I’ve worked so hard on building to an excellent rating to now a fair rating 🤦🏾♀️.

I’m going through the same thing. The late payments and derogatory marks hit my score hard but it’s recovering even faster than I expected. It’s been only 2 months since it happened and my score is already going back up. However, the timeshare is the only derogatory thing on my credit and all of my payments for everything is on time. I felt I had to let the timeshare foreclose because there was just no way to get out of it. I begged the company to take it back, consulted with multiple lawyers and timeshare exit companies which also get like scams…. I just didn’t want the time to pass to another relative and I never used it. Sigh. It will get better… 🙏🏾

@ShaDonna Renae Yes! I let it happen, I must say it wasn’t planned I didn’t expect it to happen so quickly. It happened within 4 months 🤷🏽♀️ I moved and never received the notices so when I went to pay to catch up the account was locked and I called…. They told me it foreclosed and sent the information. They also sent a declaration that they wouldn’t pursue a deficiency judgment and the account was henceforth settled. So I was grateful for that.

I have many missed payments up to 90 days x 3 and two charge offs on two credit cards. This is going on 6 years of no missed payments of any kind and next year the charge offs fall off. I want to buy a house in 2024. Do I have any chance of buying a home with a decent interest rate or will they look back at the last 10 years? I did have a personal loan unsecured that I paid off in full within one year with no missed payments in 2018. But 2017 was a bad year for me overall. Can you help please?

Hi John, absolutely. Your late payments and charge offs are over 2yrs old and you have 6yrs of good payment history. As long as you meet the other qualifying guidelines (employment, low debt to income ratio, etc.) you are all good :)

I did this for a car loan . I am defaulted 10g . I called Santander and they can’t locate the car . I live in a different state from the person I co-signed for … should I sue ? Santander is also telling me that they won’t hand over the debts to a collector because they don’t have it . I also have a charge off on my credit report

Many have tried to bring a lawsuit against someone and were told they did not have a case. When you schedule a free consultation with an attorney they can tell you if you have probable cause, but please speak with an attorney! I believe that if more people sue, changes will happen in our contracts and co-signing guidelines to lay out all the 'what-ifs' if someone defaults, even if the co-signers themselves have a separate contract available laying out what happens if they fail to pay the bill. I've had 2 clients that have sued and won; both in TX

What if the debt is past the statue of limitations AND the credit report has errors on it? Is it a good idea to still dispute/ remove the inaccuracies being it is past the statue of limitation?

You can, those are the easiest to dispute. There are a few things you have to look out for, but yes, you can dispute an account that has errors and is past the statute of limitations.

If it's past the statute of limitations, it's not past the federal reporting limitation. It should only be a few more years, depending on your state's statute of limitations, when the account is deleted. You can look on your credit reports from AnnualCreditReport.com to see the removal date
