Gotta be an old film, Sage doesn’t even use a half wells grip (like shown in video) on any of their rods any more. Also, this video didn’t reveal that Sage blanks are composites, and actually contain more fiberglass mixed in with the carbon, as compared to some other brands. Also, no regard to ergonomics on cork grips, the snub nose grip on nearly every fly rod they make is essentially a straight piece of cork with little or no contour to support the palm of your hand. I have a few Sage rods I like, but the last one I bought recently had cork and reel seat quality that was no better than the cheap overseas rods. The reel seat on my $900 Trout LL turns color and swells up when it gets wet! I try to buy US made rods…but if I am paying that much more for the extra labor, then I should get something better quality than outsourced products, and it’s getting more and more difficult to do that these days. Still I agree, Sage is a great company.

It is a real shame that Sage started painting these rods. I used to love fishing Sage rods and the aesthetics of old models like RPL and XP. I just can't pay that much for a rod that looks like a a cheap golf club shaft. Orvis also went down the gutter wrt. looks. Luckily Scott, Loomis and others still makes handsome fly rods.

Problem with Sage rods is that they are so ugly. They used to be gorgeous, like the XP and RPL but then they started painting the blanks.

To think Sage let this guy put his paws on production line rods. I wouldn’t want to be the poor soul who ends up buying the rod this guy messed up!

Hopefully they didn’t put his graphite in the production line.
