What happens when I malfunctions while you’re driving down the highway?
@theamaturepro5 ай бұрын
Same thing that happens if your ignition switch malfunctions driving down the highway. Mechanical switches like these are not at all likely to malfunction. It's possible, of course, but it's like light switches in your home, not likely. If they do go bad, it'll almost always be while turning it on or off, not randomly in use.

Why was no demo included here displaying the system going through a complete lock-to-lock operation> I want to see this system work together as a unit-- clearances involved -and by this be able to see how well designed it is.

I have a 1965, 6 cylinder Mustang and like Elmo, I only want a manual kit, not power. Do you still make these and how many turns lock to lock do they have. I'm assuming from the video that I only need your kit and everything bolts on. Alan

Alan, we have manual kits that come with a variety of options. They can be seen online here, about halfway down the page. www.flamingriver.com/index.php/products/c0007/s0011 If you have any questions please reach out to us at 800-648-8022, Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm EST. When will you finish the steering set up for the Older Rolls Royce you mentioned in the podcast? I'm looking to purchase this type of set up for my older Rolls Royce. I would love to see it installed to see how it looks and if this would work for my car.

Sure thing! We will be posting the pictures on our Facebook page (facebook.com/FlamingRiver/) and I'm sure we'll post the video up here, too! We are working on 59-64 Rolls Royce currently.

Appreciate the presentation. Was hoping to see the original steering box with integrated shaft removed from the car though. The original box had an integrated shaft whereas the box removed from the car came out without the shaft. Was the shaft cut and removed before the box was taken out? Would like some clarity. Must say that rack and pinion no doubt is a great way to upgrade the steering for these older mustangs. In the future perhaps you might be willing to show how to install your FR1497Q box and shaft in a 65-66 mustang (demonstrating also how to remove the old integrated unit while the engine remains in the car. Thanks, Ace.

Flaming River Industries engineers and builds parts for street rods, hot rods, muscle cars and classic cars which historically have been the "Big Three"... General Motors, Ford and Mopar. In recent years, we have started exploring other markets and have been working on some products for off road applications (Jeeps, Trucks, etc) and in the future we may look into options for other markets as well, but it's not our primary focus currently.
@TomIvarKverndalen6 жыл бұрын
I have been installing this setup on my mustang, but how do you make the steering shaft connection between the rack and column? Hard to get the nice steering feel because of the slack the mid support is giving... Got a double yoke from the steering column and a support, then an ordinary u-joint at the rack... But the uniball that is in the kit makes a 20mm deadzone on the steering wheel. The rack is nice and the rest of the kit is nice. Just hard to get the "perfect" setup on the joints between column and rack. A set of picters and how to on that would be nice.

Way overly complicated, should just be able to bolt on and go

I put one of these in my 66 over ten years ago. It has never been right. Very disappointed. directions were terrible. An absolute nightmare to install! I wouldn't recommend to anyone. The bump steer is way worse than it was factory. If someone from flaming river would like to contact me over possible solutions it would be greatly appreciated!
@VirtualWoodshed5 жыл бұрын
John Morneault did you ever hear anything back from flaming river? I’m looking to upgrade my 67 to rack and pinion, but your comment is troubling. It’s interesting, since they clearly got an improvement on bump steer in this video. Do you recall what your specific problems were with the installation?
