I have had mine installed on my CBR1000rr since 2016-17 so about 8 years. IT has worked well untill yesterday when I lost all signals. Turning the bike on/off did not work. Neither did waiting till the next day. I stripped down the cowls so I could see my wiring - no obvious issues. wiggled all the wires testing for function - no go. Then I checked the power lead witha meter and then left the bike power on for a few moments forgetting it. When I tested the unit now works and has continued to work all day. grrr - but it sounds simillar to your problem description.

It sounds like you have the same issue. I know my install is good because the bypass plug allows turn signals to operate. I would redo your install to match mine based upon my history. Have you looked for or found a competing product as a replacement?

I have looked at otherr options but they all seem primitive compared to these units. I like your set up a lot but it would be difficult to implement on my bike. I went 8 years without incident - I think I will just keep going for now and watch more carefully. I used bullet connectors under the tank cowl so i can at least do a manual bypass if I want.

Mi motor runrunea y no acelera porque el gobernador se queda a fondo
@Blakelikesfood

O.k., short and sweet I'm trying to verify my internal governor is bad, before I waste the time pulling the motor. So with the throttle cable off/loose, my governor arm sags downwards/to the right (clockwise) which is supposedly full throttle, when the governor arm is moved by hand upwards/to the left (counterclockwise) which is supposedly slowest throttle. Aka, my arm is acting just like the first ~10 seconds of your video. I'm assuming when everything is under full working order, and considering cable tension is not putting pressure on anything (removed or set to low throttle), that the normal position the governor arm is supposed to be resting to the left? In both your video and my case, the governor arm wants to rest to the right, being full throttle. Sound like a bad governor? I've also made attempts to adjust the governor arm in relation to the governor spline coming out of the case....in all cases it wants to rest to the downward/right position. EDIT: Also, upon putting a ~1/4 socket on the governor spline coming out of the crankcase I can easily get it to go right or left, it doesn't feel like binding, the right to left is kinda a small increment, maybe like an inch full right to left/back and forth.

So i just put a new crank seal and oil sump seal. After putting everything back together and started engine, it revs full throttle. So i tried adjusting governor arm. @AshrafFarrag
@AshrafFarrag 7 ай бұрын
The mechanism will move when the engine isn’t running. The key to diagnosing If the internals have failed is if the arm doesn’t resist or move while you try to run the engine. You can start the engine and regulate the throttle plate manually to see if the governor mechanism is intact. The key is to not let it over-rev while you try to assess it. Might want to get a helper to start the engine, move throttle to slow immediately and and be ready to kill it if you can’t control it.
@AshrafFarrag

There was very little movement to adjust when it is intact. A fraction of a full turn…I want to say maybe as little as 1/4 turn. It was fine a few minutes beforehand and next thing I know it revved out of control…so, yeah, it is possible your service was just at the “right” timing where it has flown apart inside…if you pulled the throttle linkages to do that service, I would check all of that thorough first before cracking it apart. You can see the other video that all the linkages and the governor looked okay from the outside…

@@samuelduran5903yeah, if you loosen the hardware to adjust and that shaft doesn’t move left or right, you probably have an internal problem where it’s jammed and not going to regulate the engine…there is a gear with weights that spins and pushes up on a lever which moves that shaft in a rotational motion…if something came apart and has gotten in the way or jammed it…that might explain your situation…it’s not all very complicated mechanism when you see it yourself. This engine is a stupid design. Why would the factory setting be full throttle to be lowered and controlled by a governor instead of just manually controlled by the user?
@AshrafFarrag
@AshrafFarrag Жыл бұрын
It is both a rev-limiter and a constant engine speed/load regulator. This application needs it for engine speed regulation. Without it, you would have to constantly open and close the throttle to ensure it doesn't potentially overrev while dealing with the changing load on the engine from cutting patches of grass of different densities while the hydrostatic drive is also subjecting the engine to various loading for propulsion. On a zero-turn like this, you need both hands to control the direction and would then have a third control to be able to constantly operate the throttle while controlling movement...that is way much to deal with...set engine speed and go about your business...

1) Do you have a tachometer to quantify how high it revs and to make the adjustments? 2) Do you have the factory repair manual for your specific model number? 3) Did you contact B&S/confirm what the correct max RPM for yours is at full-throttle to adjust the governor to? 4) Did you adjust the linkage right? 5) You can always take it to a professional to diagnose/repair (will likely be cheaper than. anew engine) but they are going to hate you when you tell them what you did and you should tell them what you did to this point so they don't chase their tail trying to figure it out.

Check all the linkages and governor adjustment. RPMs up and down (surging) can be a carb issue. Look for a video on surging to see if that’s it. Governor that’s totally gone will try to run to 4000 RPMS and won’t slow down and will be terminal. Surging tends to be carb issues.

Yup! The fly-weights on the governor sling off into the crankcase, which makes the gov shaft limp, which runs the engine at a destructively high RPM. Get the parts diagram for your specific engine model number and the service manual. You will see the part number for seals in the parts diagram for the governor shaft and the service manual will tell you what must be replaced to get to the shaft to replace those seals and the other components to remove to get to it (as well as any seals or parts for those that must be replaced). Remove engine from chassis, pull oil pan, remove governor shaft, replace seals, reassemble, replace whatever you want for preventative maintenance while you have it apart along with any sealant compulsory replacements for the subassemblies you had to remove to replace the shaft seal. Might be more work than you want to do for an oil seal if it is not heavily leaking or just seeping where you can regularly check the oil level. What I wouldn’t try, is to seal with a tube of random stuff externally and risk the governor shaft not operating properly.

Before it was disassembled, did the governor adjustment still respond properly and stop when turned counterclockwise to the seat? Or did it just free spin
@AshrafFarrag
@AshrafFarrag 2 жыл бұрын
I did the governor adjustment procedure several times before taking the engine apart and in my case, with the governor gear being the thing that was broken, it behaved no differently before replacement than it did after it was replaced (as in, it stopped and seated when turned). I could see where the arm that contacts the governor could break and potentially allow for it to spin freely and not stop, though. When the engine was run with the governor broken, I could control the speed by manipulating the throttle plate/linkage. The governor lever just flopped around and did not make any attempt to regulate the speed down. When it works correctly, you can feel it push and pull the throttle when the throttle lever is adjusted to idle/low and it will oppose any attempt to manipulate the engine speed by you moving the linkages to increase speed.

@AshrafFarrag 2 жыл бұрын
Start the engine for as short a time as possible (a few seconds, don’t let it run uncontrolled or attempt to run ungoverned). Once it starts, you will need to quickly change your physical position from where you need to be in order to start the engine to being able to safely position one of your hands on the governor arm without putting yourself in any danger from any moving parts. Alternately, have someone else start the engine while you are already positioned at the governor mechanism. You should then be able to feel the arm move and resist your movements of the arm and attempts to manually control the engine speed. If the arm just flops around, the internal mechanism is most likely broken. The throttle lever restricts the upper limit of what the governor can control, provided the mechanism is working correctly (internal governor mechanism, springs, linkages, throttle, etc). If it is broken, you should be able to manually control the throttle plate to closed and bring the engine speed down to or near idle.
