This wasn't a student competition. That was in Naxxar, Naxxar have 2 band committees (Banda Vittoria and Tal Peace) they celebrate the same feast, they compete each other by over everything (Decorations, Marches and fireworks). In this case this was either Banda Vittorja ground fireworks or the others. This has nothing to do with students.
@milkosteve7 ай бұрын
Sorry for that, it was what we were told by the tour guide, only reiterating what he told us at the time. Was still a competition though so I did get some of it right. Was also around 2004 so about 20 years ago.

@@alanbatt used to spend a lot of time round that estate, knocked about with a guy John Toms who lived in the terraced houses on Charlton lane, and the Evans's John and Ricky. Most of us all went to Thamesmead School. I don't remember the house, looked it up but it was demolished a year before I was born lol. I know the park as I had friends who lived in the mobile homes there.

Many thanks for this, I live locally and wish it hadn't gone ahead but as it has then it's good to see what up till now has been hidden behind 'the mound'. If you can, then please produce follow up so as to see the change in both the site and traffic congestion which sadly you have to feel is inevitable.

I aim to do drone coverage whenever I visit my family just across the road from the pit. Unfortunately from Lincolnshire it is not a case of just popping down for the day, but I hope it will not be too long. I think September is a definite. It was inevitable after them trying for 50 years, and when you think of the amount of gravel pits in Shepperton's history, (even the golf course was an old gravel pit),then hopefully this one will be reclaimed in a way to enhance the area, although whatever they do with it Spelthorne CC or Parking Eye will make it an expensive day out.

It's a shame to see it like that, but I suppose if the council have insisted it goes back to farm land afterwards, that's a blessing. What sort of depth will they go down to remove 1.25 million tonnes? And how many years will it go on for before being restored fully? Have they given any indication ?
@milkosteve8 ай бұрын
When I worked at Greenhams the depth varied but was very deep in places. Reinstated the right way it could be used for farming within about a year. It has to settle enough to be workable. If left for building land it used to be 25 years before they could use it.

What a waste of good farming land.
@milkosteve8 ай бұрын
@@lordbrennanofsealand5772 It is whilst they are extracting, but if it is managed as well as the Littleton Lane/Laleham Road pit it can be farmed again. The EA compulsory purchased 111 hectares of grade A farmland where I live and promptly flooded it for nature! Now that really is a waste. www.internetgeography.net/topics/coastal-realignment/

Always feel sorry for people that suffer flooding in their homes. My sisters house flooded after the builders who built the estate, failed to link the drains up with the existing sewers. It was 5 feet deep in her lounge as she was the last house right down in a dip. No matter what they did, that smell never went.
@milkosteve9 ай бұрын
As it was my crane truck in the video, I saw the devastation the flooding did to the houses and it is not a nice thing to witness. It can only get worse, since the 2007 floods we have had hundreds/thousands of houses built here, there are lots of buildings in the drone footage that were not there back then. They are squeezing them in like Sardines.
@Tojj299 ай бұрын
Nice vid, do those houses ever get flooded?
@milkosteve9 ай бұрын
Not there, it has flooded houses half a mile further upstream, last major flood was 2007. I did a video back then but in the days pre drones. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWacdohtrqqsiJIsi=LcAZFc-zdgaXWPbA
