It is yep, so it is dry enough for you to key before your top coat :)

Awesome. I have a soft spot for Auto Balm from back in the day. It builds a gorgeous finish on older paint - but you need time and patience to get most out of Auto Balm. Apply too thick and it is a nightmare to buff off by hand. Sadly due to its notorious difficultly with buffing, its been leap frogged by modern waxes and sealants which are much easier to buff. Interesting Bilt Hamber hasn't tweaked the formula over the years and brought out a version 2. Thanks for the vid - nice to see Auto Balm get some love.

You dont say what kind of roller is best - foam? Are you saying you should always finish off with a brush because of air bubblers and will brush marks show with this brtand (HMG paints the same?)

We tend to favour using a 'fluffy' roller - paintman.co.uk/shop/roller-kit-coach-enamel/ . It is always recommended to lay off your paint with a brush with any coach enamel paint to get an extremely flat finish. We still mix ours to the highest quality which ensures the great lay off time. :)

how would i paint over shedding fiberglass? i don't particularly want to deal with gelcoat but i don't want to have to soak it in paint (there's no gelcoat and the paint that was on it is gone, its bare fiberglass) (oh and its a truck topper shell)

We would suggest prepping the surface til it's smooth and you are happy with it. Then using adhesion promoter, then filler primer and then finally a topcoat. paintman.co.uk/applying-coach-enamel-to-fibreglass/

Could you confirm how long is needed between coats? Is it necessary to wait 24 hours or can you put a second coat on once it has tacked up slightly to eliminate the need to flat with p600? Thanks
@paintmanpaint
@paintmanpaint 3 ай бұрын
If you are spraying with our ultraspeed, you have a 20 minute flash off time, so you can wait 20 mins and re-coat! If you wait longer than this you will need to wait the full 24 hours to denib and then re-coat. If you are using coach enamel it is recommended you wait the full 24 hours.

Clear coat is optional with our 1k paint, you get a high gloss finish from the top coat. Clear coat is beneficial to add a layer of protection from weather and extreme use.

Hi! You want around 40psi, you would ideally want a tip of 1.4 - 1.6. We use a 1.5 tip here! :)

Also, I've learned the hard way, ensure you have sufficient flow rate for your gun measured in CFM. HV is high volume and that means air volume delivered to the gun to atomise the paint. Without this you'll likely get orange peel. If it requires 14 CFM at the gun you need to account for loses from the compressor through the valves, oil/water separator, line and connectors - go for the high flow connectors. Or, go for a LVLP spray gun designed for small low capacity compressors.

Still a bit of a rough finish by the end. Dkd it flatten out as it dried? Or if you were to do it again, maybe would you thin the paint or do anything to make it flatten easier?
@paintmanpaint
@paintmanpaint Жыл бұрын
At 4:51 it shows a video & photo of how it looks flattened out where there are absolutely no brush marks left in the paint. Check out our Instagram for more photos of our customers amazing finished projects @paintmanpaint . If you are struggling to get a flat finish, you could add brushing additive which extends the wet edge time, or possibly a small bit of thinner (5%).

This video is purely for demonstration of technique. :) This coat was flatted back with wet and dry P1000 and another coat was applied at a vertical angle. We advise paint to be applied on a vertical angle to prevent dust settling.

Beware of drips out your respiratory protection when working over the job using solvent based paints. Also not an issue for the wooly jumper wearing demonstrator here.

I'm curious that you think so. Perhaps you have only ever painted in the ideal setup. If however you are working in a confined space (any enclosed environment with poor air exchange) and wearing suitable RPE for high VOC paints, such as 2 pack urethanes, you will get drips from the mask exhaust onto any surface you are working over. Given that this video is focused on finish coats why would it be silly to avoid drips onto a moisture sensitive coating? Either you like inhaling isocyanates, or repairing your topcoat. Naturally any VOC coating should mandate responsible PPE. Likewise not all coatings are so sensitive to salty water drips when wet. Granted is was intended to highlight the lack of PPE. There is however no excuse for it's absence especially as this is presented by a business that has a legal requirement protect employees from W.E.L. above background whether in the US or Europe. For everyone else doing the odd job it is still important as the effects of chemical exposure can be severe. Let's chalk this up as a silly comment and then watch that video on the train crash over by.. vynil chloride etc. Just in case there is a rebuff of it being a single pack paint.. if the solvent is not solely water then it's not good for you.

@@alistercarmichael4990 I don’t wear a respirator when spraying. I find it too cumbersome and distracts from achieving the best finish. As long as you step outside post job and inhale plenty of fresh air as this will allow your lungs to remove any toxins before they can harm your body

Bunch your tack rags up like a ball and let them dry out. Don't apply any pressure on a tack rag it's not a cloth you will wipe the tack glue into the panel.
