Oh wow I remember loving Museum of Everything when I was in school! Had a friend who recorded each new episode and we'd listen to it together at break time. Listening to it again, that Dune sketch has aged quite badly haha! I'm gonna have those fish singing "Across the Mersey" in my head for the rest of the week! 🤣 Do you have any more episodes of MoE?

I think this is less scary than what we have now. At least there’s a nice eagle picture instead of a plain black screen and creepy TTS voice

This was entertaining but nowhere near what it used to be on the old KFI show. One of Phil’s characters would take the most outrageous positions and the callers would be mad as hell.

The cards shown at the beginning of each test (despite not being aired publicly) are most likely how long the alerts had to be. The Monthly Test has to be an hour and 30 minutes, as shown in the slide at 2:15.
@TyRosenow
@TyRosenow 6 жыл бұрын
Close. The cards were 55 seconds for the weekly test and one minute and 30 for the monthly test. You are right, these were never aired as they were for information purposes only for the operator to activate the EAS decoder for these tests. The operator did have the option to not use the tape where we had pre-made slides to air, but the script was required to be read aloud in which we also used cart machines.

EAS equipment first became available in early 1996 (if i am not mistaken). I know that the first EAS encoder to be recognized by the FCC was the Harris Sage ENDEC in late January 1996 (TFT also began manufacturing EAS encoders/other equipment at the beginning of 1996). According to the old Harris broadcast website(the company who makes the SAGE ENDEC) first radio station to implement and use the EAS was WXVU in Cincinnati on January 26 1996.

This was probably from 1997, since the EAS did not exist in 1995 or 1996. This is clearly the early days of the EAS, since they seem to still be using EBS test procedures.
@TyRosenow
@TyRosenow 10 жыл бұрын
The EAS was approved by the FCC in November 1994. All broadcast stations were required to make the switch on January 1, 1997. It can't be any later than March 1996 (which is when I left).

Actually, this is the vhs copy of the original broadcast tape. It was used for scheduled EAS tests. It is against FCC regulations to put EAS tones that do not originate from the EAS decoder.
