I have replaced the fuel lines, air and fuel filters carburetor, left off the muffler, new spark plug, put fresh gas in my 790r and after several attempts, it will run for about 8 seconds (my record) and then dies. Then it won't start again until I come back the next day. My arm is getting tired from pulling the starter line. Is there something I am missing
@GuysPlayingWithTools
@GuysPlayingWithTools 7 сағат бұрын
It sounds like it's flooding based on it not trying again until the next day. If you get the few seconds of running and then it won't try, pull the plug and dry it off(I use my air compressor and blow it for a second) That said, you are really close. turn both adjustment screws in all the way(gently) and then back both out 1/2 turn and try it. once it's trying a little more, adjust the L screw(closest to the motor) to get the idle. If it's being a real pain I will turn the H screw in all the way until I have an idle, then work on it afterwards. All carbs are different and getting it kinda running so you can make adjustments can be tricky.

Given the channel title, you are assuming a lot. Most folks do not enjoy playing with tools, for them, it's work. Professionals learn to care for their tools or they fail because they can't compete. The amateurs groundskeepers who care about tools see a relationship between tool care and results. Tool collectors are entirely different. If you are trying to produce good work with minimum total expense, I agree 100% about maintenance being more important than the "quality " of the machine - but knowledge of how the tool works and how to use it most effectively is actually the most important. That knowledge guides the tool you choose and the care you take of it. imo It's more important to match the tool to the user than to match it to the work. I don't expect people to understand or care about machines as a tech or engineer would, because most folks expect that a tool made for them can be turned on and run, turned off when they are done, and other than obvious cleaning, can be ignored the rest of the time. I recognize that people apply effort by priority of something to their welfare. Lawns aren't a necessity, so tools for lawns are low priority unless the user enjoys the associated work. For others a mediocre tool that is highly reliable is better than an excellent one that requires more from the user. The stale gas and mixed deposits issue is why, for light use home grounds keeping equipment, I prefer and recommend electric to gas when the geography allows. Dealing with an extension cord or batteries is a chore, but both are obvious necessities for the equipment to run, making them impossible to forget. For maintenance it's easier to convince a non-tech user to bring a plug in battery inside, and relatively clean electrical equipment into a heated home each winter (at which time they are more likely to do additional cleaning), than to train them to clean and maintain fuel systems of something they store for 5 months in a unheated garage or shed. This wouldn't be as much of an issue if consumer gas machines were designed for cleaner, simple, tool free draining and cleaning of the fuel systems. It wouldn't be expensive for makers to add drains to the tiny fuel tanks. Simple passive fuel level indicators would make it easier for a casual user to schedule running a 2 cycle engine "dry". Flushing such a system could be done with less effort, mess, waste and pollution. Adding these two missing features would increase the perceived value and lifespan of the machines. The only reason for NOT doing so isn't cost. It's because mechanics design machines for mechanics.

My wife and I were married and bought our first house in 1996. Needed to by a lawnmower. Go to Home Depot and look at mowers. I've always been a big fan of Honda mowers. Bought one. Happened to be Father's Day. Still use it but light usage. We retired and moved to the country. Had to buy a Airenes Zero Turn because we have three acres to mow. But we still use the Honda in places a 52" deck can't reach. But agree, maintenance is key.

You can ask more than one LOL. Seriously though... The ethanol in modern fuel is not bad, until it sits for a while, then it's really bad. If you leave fuel in the machine over the winter, or for any extended time, it will reach a point where it starts damaging the gaskets. My golden rule is, if it's going to sit for more than a month or so, I drain the fuel and run it until it stalls. 👍

I am not sure, as near as I can tell, it is a design flaw. It's not really a vent as much as it's an alignment peg that goes clear through the carb. Carbs bodies are always used in more than one application with modifications for each use, and this particular mod could have been better.

If it's what I am thinking it is, it's a crankcase vent. You can use a carb with the vent facing the wrong way. If possible, run a rubber tube. If not, block the hole on the carb so dirty air doesn't get it. The tube coming from the motor should get a little filter(minibikes use filters that fit perfect), so it doesn't make a mess on the side of the motor because it's venting from the motor. It technically could run fine with it open on the motor side, but you really don't want dirty air going into the carb. 👍
