Those stepped vertical walls look similar to modern strip mines. The Painted Hills look like tailing piles.

My family and I actually flew several times from Europe to USA just to be at the ranch. This place gave me the rare moment of my father being truly happy and my mother actually letting go of her anxiety when on a horse (ginger) and I will never forget the lovely Lefty. We wanted to return this summer but well suddenly the world was on hold. Definitely worth going there !

I used to work for a Portland catering company that did the catering. It was mostly prepared in Portland and trucked to the train then reheated. That's the only way to get it done on the train. Nothing was made fresh "on" the train.

yes! Thank you for sharing this video, I was a teen working there, 1982 to 1985, good memories being there and still am good friends with my co-workers from back then.
