An art piece featured by an early Liberal minded individual - makes it queer itself in its symbolism? Furthermore; casting it in a way afterwards that screams “inclusivity”. We ruined art.

And how would this totally classify it as “queer” - as it was cross-dressed by a woman. ?

"Honesty in the materials." That's the fanciest gibberish I have ever heard. It literally means nothing. Brutalism was invented specifically to pull beauty and culture out of everything and make everything look the same back when communism was on the rise and they dreamed of the whole world looking the same. They wanted everything to be equal everywhere in the world and you can't do that when every culture has its own unique looks. It wasn't some grand conspiracy. They openly talked about this. They knew if they stripped the beauty from the world, it would demoralize the masses. Nobody wants to fight to defend a concrete box. The architects don't even want to live in their own creations.

dendrochronology wasn't a thing hundred years ago. so if it was copy, why would they bother to find an older wooden board to paint on? and back than, making wooden board is not as easy as today, and they would not stock them and have old stock 10 years old gathering dust in some storage.
@aatpg-vx5xm
@aatpg-vx5xm Ай бұрын
Okay but how do we know the wood panels are 10 years apart? You could know the separate ages of the trees at time of cutting out the panels, but that doesn’t necessarily communicate when the wood panels were made.

Oohhh @rickyjoe1492 ’s reply on @Oliverddd ‘s comment explains it, very cool. (If you can’t find that comment for some reason it explains that big events in nature (ex. droughts) visibly affect all tree rings in their development and thus provides synchronization for tree ring reading of lumber from a certain area when coupled with historical records of when those events happened.)
@Oliverddd

How do you know when the tree was planted? Rings tell you how many years a tree was growing? Sounds like bs
@rickyjoe1492
@rickyjoe1492 Ай бұрын
World events like droughts, fires, etc. affect how the rings grow and create a pattern. So if they know the years of these events, they can compare the ring patterns and derive the years. Very cool stuff.

I'm more surprised about the fact that Élisabeth lived long enough to paint Marie Antoinette and witness the Early Years of the Victorian Era. Imagine being born during the 7 Years War and witness the American Revolution, the French Revolution, the Regime of Terror, The Napoleonic Era, The Congress of Vienna, The Industrial Revolution, The Bourbon Restoration, The Decolonization of the Americas and The Coronation of Queen Victoria

I really like em'. They're size gives off a sort of megalithic and dominant feel, the peculiar shapes and angles, design give off a mysterious, dystopian feel to them. People think they're ugly because they only think of classic, cheap brutalism, most remarkably the Soviet "commie blocs", but actual good brutalism that a lot of architectures seem to like building in the recent years gives off the feeling I mentioned before, they're unique and weird, a good kind of weird.

Brutalism takes away everything that makes a building beautiful. The history, the culture, the craftsmenship. It is the most inhuman "living" space that exists. The only thing that makes this vile pile of toxic rock cluster worth to build, is its price. The very fact that someone was tastless enough to force people into these mass made robust and unintresting or even dagerously built srtuctures is in itself a tragedy.

Jesus Christ what got you to write a peom of that, I think you might be thinking and picturing Soviet "commie bloc" brutalism, real brutalism when done right looks megalithic, mysteriousm especially when the interior is wide or tall, it lasts centuries while being cheap and fast to build, and kinda beautiful when designed correctly. The odd asymmetric angles and shapes make them look and feel interesting and out of the ordinary. Let's just say there's a good and bad side of it.

@@-Ryan_Gasoline- I find brutalism as something to marvel at. But I don't marvel at the concrete, I marvel at its size, its form and shape. Everything brutalism does can be made better when used something else other than a cold, colorless coarse and overall dystopian material. Concrete is an anti-art material. if the style of brutalism was given more life and variety in material then its viable.
@mmyr8ado.360
@mmyr8ado.360 Ай бұрын
@@schlim6763you can definitely make art out of concerte, brutalism just beings out concrete's undesirable features or "honesty" as the others put it. It can imitate any form of rock found in nature providing you have the right mold and as it hardens, it becomes rock itself, and it is used on buildings that defined styles like the Art Deco and the Chrysler Building. Concrete is a modern marvel, but a misused one.
@schlim6763
@schlim6763 Ай бұрын
@@mmyr8ado.360 The problem is when these undesirable features or "honesty" are actually undesirable. The "honesty" people tag onto Brutalism is for me comparable to a person being indiscreetly undesirable and needlessly harsh and praising it as "honesty". Glad you see something I can't and I have nothing against Brutalist architecture actually being built, but only sparsely and for places that aren't apartment complexes or where people live. Concrete is a marvel, so is literally every other material. The difference is that it has unfortunate connotations of dystopian, poor, eastern block which are all valid. Brutalism is cold, towering, lifeless, strict, imposing, cheap and coarse
