it's a play-on-words...a combination of the Amtrak service, "Empire Builder", with the name of the PV (private car) on the back of the manifest at timestamp 1:50, the "Redwood Empire", hence the video title

The first train is going to Ogden? I guess when it hits Hinkle it will be really changed since a lot of that train's content was Canadian freights cars, both from CP and surprisingly CN.

The whistle on #70 is a Baldwin 5 inch 3 chime (original whistle) and the whistle on #17 is an Ashton 6 inch 3 chime (one used on #5).

Great video! Would you recommend this spot? I have been wanting to go for a while but it's just really far away.
@RainierRails4 жыл бұрын
Yes, that gravel area next to the tracks is more than wide enough to park any sized vehicle, while still being well off the highway. There's not much in the way of shade, but with the breeze, shouldn't be a problem. Cooks is a siding often used for meets, so if you get one entering or already in the siding, more than likely, something in the opposite direction is not far away (although sometimes the garbage units can sit there for a few hours with nothing coming).

@@RainierRails Good to know. I had one concern, it just seems like sometimes if the train is fast it would be hard to get the camera going before it starts honking (I would really want to get the full horn at the crossing there). Was it easy to hear them coming before they were in view?
@RainierRails4 жыл бұрын
@@PNWTrains Ah. For the westbound, I had glanced at ATCS, so knew it was inbound, and the eastbound was already parked in the siding, waiting for the garbage to clear. Without ATCS, something clearly waiting in the siding, or Amtrak tracker (for the Builder), yes, they can sneak up on you.
