All the two bit tough guys around or big time Charlie potatoes as we sometimes say in England i say to them this video shows real life and death violence not a sneaky knife killing or drive by shooting or a sucker punch on a drunk, so violence is a bad way ahead unless you absolutely had no choice as these men did and all who had to do just that over 2 world wars and conflicts Since.

A glorified presentation with no appreciation for the fallen.
@paulreilly390413 күн бұрын
May I ask how the presentation should be done? And how do you think the film could appreciate the fallen better? These are genuine questions, I'd very much like to hear your thoughts please.

Incredible bravery and Film Footage. Considering the sound track wasn’t even taken the PEEELOOWWW RICHOCHET NOISES are a bit John Wayne. But we’ve got used by now as viewers to Star ships skid turning with huge boom bangs. In space.

I was there in 1971. My Navy buddies and I did not go into the laterals. Back then Corregidor had not been “discovered” yet. We had the whole island to ourselves…a great experience. We stayed the weekend in the small motel on the knoll near the entrance. Something I will never forget. I was 21 years old.

This was a combined service operation. There were Bomber attacks, strafing attacks, ship bombardment all just before the drop. Of about 2,500 parachutists about 500 missed the drop zones. And there was a supporting amphibious attack immediately following the drop. The Japanese infantry was trapped in the tunnels. The tunnels were sealed off with explosives and gasoline was pumped in by the air vents. Amazing film of this. But, one wonders did we have to do it? The Japanese were not going anywhere. But, tens of thousands of Filipinos died in the fighting in Manila. There was little feeling of mercy.

That looked like the base of a 155 mm shell. I read once about a device used by the US Army to attack these bunker entrances. It was a simple ballistic device that was solely used to fire a large caliber artillery shell into these targets when no other weapon could be pulled into a suitable firing position. As I understand it was a rudimentary device that was propped up on cribbing (?) and probably fired electrically. I wonder if they had any rifling? Scant details exist on these sorts of combat engineer equipment or tactics. Who else misses the nice guy of the 'Saipan Pictures' chan?

MacArthur was a narcissist, surrounded himself with sychophants, and hated intel that contradicted what he already wanted to do. It's how he got caught with pants down twice, in the Phillipines by the Japanese and at the Yalu River by the Chinese. Definitely, the most overrated general of World War 2.
