When my repressed memories came back after 20 years, I literally went into shock. I was sexually assaulted by my own boss. My friend told a group of strangers my story and again I nearly blacked out. It was a terrible betrayal.

@@newviewadvice I feel honored to hear your stories, Amanda. It often feels that the world is drowning in the superficial. Thank you for watching and for your reflections on this story. It is so hard not to judge ourselves for those actions. Its taken me a really long time to forgive myself for who I became in the aftermath of the traumas I survived. I think its one of the complexities often not discussed when talking about trauma. @@newviewadvicethank you! I feel that these actions (not yours specifically but in general. Mine too) are not only ways to cope, but just to survive something that shouldn’t ever have happened. They are not pretty nor healthy, but at the time, something that kept danger away. And it worked or at least that’s what we tell ourselves. And that’s something no one rly understands. Only to receive Judgement from others and from ourselves when really we were just trying to live with the horrors. Healing and realizing self destruction along the way is the worst.
@newviewadvice
@newviewadvice Ай бұрын
@@BKinnov 100% agree with everything you said! These are situations no one should ever have to go through, and I've found that self-preservation is not always pretty, it very often looks illogical, but the actions taken are really just ways we find - or atleast that I found would keep me safe. Unfortunately people judge these actions, but they shouldn't be judged cause these are situations/horrors that no one is ever prepared for.

I was in a local group & one of the support people was a long term close friend of my close friend. She later told mr she left the group because she was tired of people talking about it a second & third time. Zero compassion. Her attitude was You told about it. It's over. Get on with your life. We definitely don't need counselors or support people like that.

I am so sorry to hear this. I think it's so unfortunate that so many people still hold this point of view that we should share once and get over it. Healing does not work that way, and it's so unfortunate that even professionals will contribute to the shame-centered narrative that rape and sexual assault it something to just "get over". I'm glad you were able to see how troubling this is and I hope you've found more compassionate people to share with. Sending you so much love 💜

Hello, I want to say that this was helpful for me. I'm 36, my parent divorced when I was 12. It was very hard for me. I thought I healed from it in my twenties. However now that I'm facing my own marital problems I'm feeling like I want to back and understand my parents relationship and divorce even deeper. You gave alot of good advice to help me get started. Would you suggest asking my parents direct questions about their marriage and divorce or just focus on my perspective?

Hey Nicole! Thanks for listening, I’m grateful you found the episode to be helpful. I think that this would be a personal decision. I think for some people it would help to ask and for others it may be hard. A few questions to help you decide I think would be - 1. Do you think your parents could calmly talk to you about the experience? Or do they tend to be very emotional and you see the conversation would be triggering for them (or you)? 2. What is your intention in asking your parents direct questions? The more clear you are on your intention the easier the conversation will go. 3. Would you (and your inner child) feel safe discussing this with your parents? Sometimes if we have emotionally immature parent figures it can trigger the flight or flight response and then be unproductive. Hope this is helpful. Sending you so much love as you continue to heal 💛
