@@kikoxify i believe that’s photo mode. I could be wrong. I dont have the camera right in front of me to say exactly but it’s you’re either in photo or some other program mode. Make sure you’re in the video mode

Appreciate the video but folks, don't use the rca output. He wasn't born when these cameras came out or was a toddler. This camera is part one of the few Hi8 camcorders that has DV Out/Firewire. Use that port to transfer to Mac. RCA is garbage quality. His video would of looked more cleaner and less muddy had he used firewire cable out.

I hear what you’re saying💯 i didn’t know about the firewire cable until after i made this video lol but i personally dont mind using the rca cables. I wasn’t necessarily going for a clean look from a camera this old. I like how it all came out.

So... the Digital 8 camera doesn't have a way to get the footage off of the tape in a digital format? You still have to go through analog cables? No Firewire?

If you use the Sony brand shotgun mic, you won’t need to use an audio cable. It attaches via hot shoe. Also, it’s better to export video from the camera using Firewire instead of the analog RCA cables. I have the same camera-bought it new in 1998. Still works great.

Winded up trading an old Fuji for this camera on Facebook Marketplace, so for me it’s a dream camera for 0 dollars haha. Can’t wait to make some short films, thank you so much for the tips your music videos look fantastic.

If you ever have problems with an older Camcorder, a Channel to check out is "12VoltVids" Watching quite a few of his video's had me fix my Sony DCR-TRV720 Camcorder, my Samsung SCL906 and SCL810. The Samsung camcorders were the Hi8, and since the seller had no way of testing, i got both for less than $25 a piece, including the shipping! I had power adapters, which came in handy. Both Camcorders worked flawlessly! I than purchased a couple of Kastar Batteries, and can record and playback. I use the Sony DCR-TRV720 with a firewire to download the analog 8mm and hi8 tapes so as to digitize them to an MP4 format. I also have an older Panasonic MINI-DV PV-GS300 which i still use!!

Why not rig your handicam up to a portable capture card like an immersion RC Powerplay and it will record straight to a SD card so you won't have to go through that lengthy process of digitizing it and buying tapes?

That’s pretty cool but it kinda takes away the traditional feel of just the camera and tapes itself. Just my personal preference.
